Walkeshwar Shri Kashi Math (temple of Sri Ram & Sri Hanuman) homes one of three Jeevant Samadhi’s in the world:
SANT DYANESHWAR MAHARAJ of Alandi, Maharashtra (Samadhi Year 1296 BE)
RAGHAVENDRA SWAMIJI of Mantralaya, Andhra Pradesh (Samadhi Year 1671)
HH SRIMAD MADHAVENDRA TIRTHA SWAMIJI of Walkeshwar, Mumbai, Maharashtra (Samadhi Year 1775 – 07th Pontiff of Sri Kashi Math Samsthan, Varanasi).
Walkeshwar Kashi Math was established along the sides of Banganga way back in the 18th century. The current year marks 250th year of Swamiji attaining Samadhi.
During the re-construction phase, present Chief Minister of Maharashtra Shri. Eknath Shinde had visited the historically important temple and Banganga along with Cabinet Minister for Education & Ministry of Marathi Language Shri. Deepak Kesarkar and Minister of Tourism & Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship Shri. Mangalprabhat Lodha on 03rd December 2023.
As we eagerly approach to witness a historic moment for the Grand Re-opening (Udghatan) of re-constructed Walkeshwar Shri Kashi Math (TEMPLE OF SRI RAM, SRI HANUMAN & Jeevant Samadhi of SRIMAD MADHAVENDRA TIRTHA SWAMIJI) with the blessings, guidance and at the august hands of Kashi Mathadipathi HH Srimad Samyamindra Tirtha Swamiji (21st Pontiff of Sri Kashi Math Samasthan, Varanasi) on 29th February 2024 at 10 AM.

It’s believed that during the Ramayana age, Sri Ram and Sri Laxman had stopped at this spot in search of Devi Sita. To quench Sri Ram’s thirst Sri Laxman shot an arrow (Ban) into the ground. It led to the gushing of water from the ground which was a tributary of Ganga. It came into existence as BANGANGA.
TILL DATE NO ONE KNOWS FROM WHERE DOES THE SWEET & PURE WATER CONTINUES FLOW 24×7 FOR 365 DAYS.
Also, it is believed that Sri Ram himself made the Shiva Ling using loose sand, water and offered worship during his stay at Banganga. Originally, it was called VALU CHA ISHWAR (Valu means sand and Ishwar is Lord Shiva), Thus, the name WALKESHWAR.
Banganga is also a World Heritage Site listed under UNESCO.

The temple had undergone extensive renovations and enhancements after 100+ years to ensure safe and enriching experience for devotees. From structural improvements to technological upgrades, every effort has been made to create a welcoming and inspiring environment for worship and spiritual growth.
During these 10 Days (29th Feb 2024 – 09th March 2024),
Various religious rituals like Ganahoma, Yaag/Hawan and Special Prayers are to take place for the betterment of living kind.
