MUMBAI, NATIONAL, GPN/ NEWSMAN SACHIN: The Jakarta–Mumbai Update (JaMU) 2026, organised by the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia in Mumbai in collaboration with the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Western Region, concluded successfully on June 25 at Hotel Sofitel, Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC), Mumbai. The event reaffirmed the shared commitment of Indonesia and India to deepen bilateral cooperation through the creative economy and strengthen partnerships across trade, innovation, culture and investment.
Held under the theme “The Creative Economy Value Chain – Monetizing Cultural Assets in the Global Food and Apparel Industry,” JaMU 2026 brought together nearly 150 participants, including creative economy practitioners from both countries, business leaders, policymakers, industry experts, academicians, entrepreneurs, investors, diplomats and media representatives. The forum served as a platform to explore new opportunities for collaboration by leveraging cultural assets and innovation to drive sustainable economic growth.
The event was inaugurated by Ms. Pritee Chaudhary, Regional Director, Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), in the presence of Mr. Eddy Wardoyo, Consul General of the Republic of Indonesia in Mumbai, Mr. Vir Advani, Chairman, Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Western Region, and Mr. D. Ramakrishnan, General Manager (P&A), National Museum of Indian Cinema, Skill Development, IT & Legal, National Film Development Corporation (NFDC).
The inaugural session featured recorded messages from the Indonesian Minister of Creative Economy, the Indonesian Minister of Trade, and the Governor of DKI Jakarta, highlighting Indonesia’s commitment to strengthening its creative economy and promoting international trade. Promotional videos showcasing the World Conference on Creative Economy (WCCE) 2026 and Trade Expo Indonesia (TEI) 2026 were also screened, underlining Indonesia’s expanding creative economy ecosystem and global business opportunities.
In his welcome address, Mr. Eddy Wardoyo said JaMU has evolved into an important platform connecting Jakarta and Mumbai through trade, investment, innovation and people-to-people engagement. He described the creative economy as a strategic pillar capable of expanding Indonesia–India cooperation beyond traditional sectors while creating new avenues for sustainable and inclusive economic development.
The business forum was organised around three thematic sessions focusing on different aspects of the creative economy value chain. The first session, titled “The Foundation,” featured experts from Universitas Indonesia, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya (CSMVS), Mumbai, and Phenomenal AI, India, who discussed the commercialisation of cultural heritage and opportunities for collaboration in films, media, artificial intelligence and creative technologies.
The second session, “The Lifestyle,” brought together representatives from Kayu India, the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Navi Mumbai, and the Indian Institute of Creative Technology (IICT), Mumbai. Discussions focused on opportunities in furniture, handicrafts, fashion, textiles, gaming, animation, digital media and design innovation, highlighting the growing potential for cross-border partnerships in lifestyle industries.
The third session, “Gastro-Monetization,” featured experts from Malaka Spice, Pune, the Western India Culinary Association (WICA), and renowned Indonesian chef Faisal Martadinata, who explored opportunities to promote Indonesian cuisine, specialty food ingredients, hospitality and culinary innovation as drivers of bilateral cooperation in the food and beverage sector.
One of the key highlights of JaMU 2026 was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Singhasari Special Economic Zone (Indonesia) and Phenomenal AI (India). The agreement establishes a framework for cooperation in artificial intelligence, film, animation, digital content, creative media, startup development, research, innovation, talent development and capacity building, while further strengthening the emerging Mumbai–Malang Creative Tech Corridor.
The event also featured a Mini Exhibition showcasing Indonesian products, creative economy initiatives and business collaborations. Participating exhibitors included Indofood, Mayora India, Azaki Food International, Gojek (GoTo Group), Mystic Garuda Ventures, Japfa Comfeed India, Sea6 Energy, Nabati Food India and Kayu India. The exhibition, along with exhibitor presentations and dedicated B2B networking sessions, provided valuable opportunities for business matching, commercial partnerships, investment promotion, and market
access.
