MUMBAI, JUNE 2026 (GPN): The Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia in Mumbai, in collaboration with the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Western Region, will organize the second edition of Jakarta-Mumbai Update (JaMU) 2026 on 25 June 2026 at Sofitel Hotel, Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC), Mumbai.
Carrying the theme “The Creative Economy Value Chain – Monetizing Cultural Assets in the Global Food and Apparel Industry,” JaMU 2026 aims to strengthen Indonesia–India economic relations by promoting cooperation in the creative economy and transforming cultural heritage into high-value economic opportunities. The programme will feature a Business Forum and a Mini-Exhibition, providing participants with opportunities for policy dialogue, knowledge exchange, business networking, business matching, and showcasing creative economy products, services and innovations from Indonesia and India.
JaMU 2026 will bring together government representatives, business leaders, academics, creative industry practitioners, investors, media representatives and members of the diplomatic community from both Indonesia and India. The Business Forum, to be held on 25 June from 3.30 pm onwards at the Sofitel Hotel, is expected to attract around 120–150 participants and serve as a strategic platform for knowledge exchange, networking and business development. Discussions are expected to contribute towards building stronger Indonesia–India creative economy networks and supporting the long-term vision of establishing a Jakarta–Mumbai Creative Corridor.
The JaMU 2026 Business Forum will be graced by the presence of the Hon’ble Mayor of Mumbai as Chief Guest and the Hon’ble Municipal Commissioner, Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM), as Guest of Honour. Their participation reflects the growing importance of city-to-city engagement and the strengthening relationship between Jakarta and Mumbai. Their presence also underscores the role of local governments in promoting international cooperation, cultural exchange, innovation and sustainable economic development through creative economy partnerships.
As Indonesia and India continue to deepen their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, JaMU 2026 seeks to explore new avenues of collaboration beyond traditional trade. The forum highlights the growing importance of the creative economy as a driver of innovation, employment generation, cultural exchange and sustainable economic growth. With both countries possessing rich cultural traditions and vibrant creative ecosystems, significant opportunities exist for partnerships in sectors such as fashion, textiles, gastronomy, design, digital media, gaming, animation and cultural industries.
Speaking ahead of the event, Mr Eddy Wardoyo, Consul General of the Republic of Indonesia in Mumbai, said JaMU has become a flagship platform for fostering dialogue and business engagement between Indonesia and India. “Culture is not only a heritage to be preserved, but also an economic asset that can create jobs, innovation, investment and business opportunities. Through JaMU 2026, including its Business Forum and Mini-Exhibition, we hope to strengthen connections between Jakarta and Mumbai and create new pathways for collaboration in the creative economy sector,” he said.
The JaMU 2026 Business Forum will feature distinguished speakers and experts from both countries who will discuss opportunities for transforming cultural assets into commercially viable products and services. Panel discussions will examine topics ranging from cultural heritage commercialisation, fashion and textile innovation, interior design and handicrafts, gastronomy and specialty food products, to emerging sectors such as gaming, animation, artificial intelligence and digital media.
Confirmed speakers include representatives from Universitas Indonesia, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya, Phenomenal AI, National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Indian Institute of Creative Technology (IICT) and Kayu India, along with industry practitioners from the design and furniture sectors, gastronomy experts and creative economy entrepreneurs. The event will also feature discussions on Indonesia–India cooperation in film, media and AI-powered creative industries.
On the sidelines of JaMU 2026, a Mini-Exhibition will be organized on Thursday, 25 June 2026, at Hotel Sofitel, Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC), Mumbai. The exhibition will be open to visitors from 11:00 hrs to 16:00 hrs and will showcase a diverse range of Indonesian products, services, artefacts, creative economy initiatives and business collaborations. The exhibition aims to strengthen economic, trade and cultural linkages between Indonesia and India while providing an excellent platform for networking and business engagement. Participating exhibitors will have the opportunity to engage directly with Indian stakeholders and explore potential partnerships, business matching opportunities and market access initiatives.
A special highlight of the programme will be the promotion of Indonesian culinary heritage.
