MUMBAI, 20 MARCH, 2024 (GPN): Mumbai based Dr L H Hiranandani Hospital (Multi-Specialty Family Hospital) celebrated its annual ‘Patient Safety Awareness Week’ from 11th March to 15th March 2024 with many interesting activities like Debate, Quiz, Elocution, Exhibition, and Role Play performed by the staff from various departments throughout the week. What’s more, in a first among hospitals in the city, the unique and well-choreographed ‘Safety Dance’ was performed by a group of staff which drew the captive attention of the entire hospital and succeeded in communicating the core message and elements of Patient Safety.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), over 2.6 million deaths occur due to unsafe care in hospitals in developed and developing countries.  ‘Patient Safety Awareness Week’ is an event to encourage education on patient safety in the hospital among all the stakeholders.

While stating the importance of Patient Safety Awareness Week Dr Sujit Chatterjee – CEO at Dr L H Hiranandani Hospital said “Patient safety is paramount at our hospital. At our hospital, Patient safety is not confined to only within the ward but it starts right from the patient entering the hospital premises till his/her discharge from the hospital. We have deployed Six Patient Safety Champions based on the six international patient safety goals. Through Patient Safety Awareness Week, the hospital promotes important events that lead to improved healthcare safety for caregivers, patients, and the systems in the hospital. The event started with pledging for patient safety from the top management, doctors, and all the stakeholders with their pledges written on the pledge board. Important discussions through events like debate, quizzes, elocution, and role play theatre take place thus encouraging the importance of patient safety in the hospital. We also had an exhibition on patient safety with various messages creating awareness through the monuments, and posters created by the hospital staff”.

“This year the hospital had a unique concept of “Safety Dance” that was choreographed and performed by a mix of around 16 hospital employees from various departments to create awareness giving a crucial message on the importance of the International Patient Safety Goals to keep the patient safe in the hospital. The active participation from all the departments for the events creates an awareness on the level of understanding from each health care provider on their role in the patient safety, be it doctor, nurse, support staff” Dr Shashikant Pawar, General Manager – Operations at Dr L H Hiranandani Hospital pointed out.

Such awareness week lead to promoting education on patient safety to have uniform practices followed in the hospital to keep the patient safe in any situation thus promoting the robust patient safety culture at Dr L H Hiranandani Hospital.
