“Soil Is The Ultimate Unifier”: Sadhguru on Day 1 At COP28

Sadhguru, Founder, Save Soil Movement, attended the inaugural sessions of the COP28, Dubai on Friday.

NATIONAL, 2nd DECEMBER, 2023 (GPN): Several world leaders were in attendance, including the Prime Minister of UK, Rishi Sunak, Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, President of the World Bank, Ajay Banga, President of France, Emmanuel Macron, Indonesian President Joko Widodo, UAE’s Minister of Climate Change and Environment HE Mariam Almheiri, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, and US Secretary of State Antony Blinken.

“It doesn’t matter who you are, what you believe, or which heaven you will go to, all of us come from the same soil, we eat off the same soil, and when we die, we will go back to the same soil. Soil is the ultimate unifier! Faith leaders can play an instrumental role in influencing and inspiring people and policymakers to enact soil revitalization policies,” Sadhguru said in his inaugural address at the Faith Pavillion of COP28.

The Save Soil campaign will hold a number of important panel discussions and fireside chats with top experts at its pavilion in the Blue Zone over the two weeks of COP28. Location: Blue Zone First Floor, Save Soil Pavilion TA2-210.

These talks, which will be led by experts on soil conservation — including representatives from the UNCCD, the global 4per1000 initiative, and the World Food Program — will center on the critical role that healthy, living soils play in mitigating climate change, as well as how they can guarantee food security, enhance biodiversity, sequester three times as much carbon as living plants, and reduce various forms of pollution.

At COP28, Save Soil aims to bring the message that healthy, living soils are a solution to climate change, further into the international agenda. Several panel discussions, such as “Soil – Climate Change Solution, not Victim,” “Carbon Farming Collectives: Overcoming Vulnerability,” “Soil, Our Very Body, “Crafting Policies: Easing Farmers’ Access to Carbon Finance,” “Investing in Sustainable Soil Management,” “Climate Proofing our Future – the Role of Soil,” will be major highlights during the course of the event.

The Save Soil movement, with inputs from eminent soil scientists, has created 7 specific Soil Policy Handbooks and catalogued sustainable soil management solutions for all 193 nations, that serve as the basis for various policy options for their respective regions (based on their soil type, latitude, climatic zones and other factors).Ends
