Rainbow Children’s Hospital Celebrates Triumph over Adversity with the Incredible Journey of Premature Fighter Twins

Rainbow Children’s Medicare Limited (RCML)

HYDERABAD, 20th NOVEMBER, 2023 (GPN): In an extraordinary tale of resilience and medical expertise, Rainbow Children’s Hospitals proudly shares the success story of twin premature babies who defied the odds to emerge as healthy NICU graduates. The 28-year-old mother, who was dealing with twin pregnancy and cervical incompetence, was referred from Nanded to Rainbow Children’s Hospital, Nanankramguda, Financial District, Hyderabad at just 26 weeks of gestation, resulting in active labour. To further complicate matters, the parents had already suffered a heart-breaking miscarriage.

Our obstetric team lead by Dr. Pujitha Devi Suraneni faced a severe predicament as there was breech of 1st twin on perineum and no time to complete the steroid cycle or provide magnesium sulphate owing to the urgency of the circumstance. Twin 1 was delivered normally, weighing a mere 750 grams, while twin 2, necessitating emergency LSCS due to a transverse lie weighed only 690 grams.

Throughout their NICU stay, both twins had a multitude of medical procedures, including ventilation, surfactant administration, central venous catheterization, inotropes, complete parenteral feeding, blood transfusions, milk fortification, and nutritional supplements. Twin 2, facing additional challenges post-birth, required extensive resuscitation. However, with unwavering dedication from Rainbow Children’s Hospitals’ NICU team, along with the steadfast support of the parents, both twins successfully overcame these obstacles”, Dr. Pradeep Reddy Kondam, Consultant – General Pediatrics & Neonatology said.

After an inspiring battle against adversity, Twin 1 and Twin 2 were discharged in robust health after 56 and 70 days of NICU stay, respectively. Remarkably, neither baby experienced any major complication during their time in the NICU.

Rainbow Children’s Hospitals extends gratitude to the referring doctor for considering in utero transport, the obstetrician for dynamic management of the case, and the NICU team for their exceptional commitment.

Dr. Kalyan Chakravarthy, Consultant – Neonatologist added, “Parents deserve special recognition for not only entrusting Rainbow Children’s Hospitals with the care of their beloved twins, but also for demonstrating exceptional strength and active engagement in their infants’ care.”

Rainbow Hospitals is known for its remarkable expertise in treating young premature babies, as exemplified by the recent case of a baby girl. Born at an astounding 25 weeks gestation, weighing a mere 375 grams, Rainbow Hospitals’ multidisciplinary team ensured her survival and subsequent discharge at 1.980 Kg. The baby girl, facing complications like lung bleeding and feeding issues, was successfully saved at Rainbow Hospitals through expert care and advanced technologies. After 128 days, she was discharged as a healthy, normal baby, highlighting Rainbow Hospitals’ commitment to excellence in premature baby treatment.

Rainbow Hospitals has achieved a significant milestone by saving over 5000 preterm babies since its inception. Notably, the hospital organized a historic gathering of 445 prematurely born children on “World Prematurity Day” in 2016, surpassing the previous record set in Argentina in 2012.

This heartening success story exemplifies the collaborative efforts of medical professionals, parents, and the indomitable spirit of the fighter twins, serving as an inspiration to all. Rainbow

Children’s Hospitals continues to be at the forefront of delivering exceptional neonatal care and celebrating these victories in the realm of pediatric medicine.Ends
