Nine-Year-Old’s Devotional Offering To Adiyogi Enthralled The Audience At Isha Yoga Center, Coimbatore

COIMBATORE, 18 APRIL, 2023 (GPN): Nine-year-old child prodigy Master Sooryanarayanan stuns the audience with his offering of Thevaram at the iconic 112-feet Adiyogi at Isha Yoga Center, Coimbatore. Performing on the auspicious Tamil New Year, the young singer perfected the rendition of six Thevaram hymns, leaving everyone with a deep sense of devotion.

Master Sooryanarayanan has been learning Carnatic music since the age of 5 from his father and has sung devotional songs on many occasions including Malaysia International Carnatic Music Festival, Krishna Gana Sabha, and various temple festivals.

After performing LIVE for the first time at Adiyogi and receiving a gift from Isha Foundation for his offering, Master Sooryanarayan said, “I am delighted to inaugurate the rendition of Thevaram at Adiyogi in the presence of such a big crowd. Sadhguru has initiated a wonderful opportunity encouraging children to offer our old treasure Thevaram composed by the celebrated Nayanars. I wish this initiative grows leaps and bounds and spreads Shiva Bhakti and profound Thamizh culture all over the world. I am confident this will give way for people to realize the devotion of Nayanmars on the Iswara tatwa.”

On Mahashivratri 2023 night, Sadhguru opened up the opportunity for children below 12 years of age to render Thevarams in front of Adiyogi. Thevarams are devotional hymns sung in praise of Shiva by the 3 Nayanmars: Sambandar, Thirunavukkarasar, and Sundarar. These songs give us an insight into the wave of bhakti that swept across southern India during the 7th Century.

Describing the importance of Thevaram, Sadhguru says, “The very fundamentals of this land which we call as Tamil Nadu right now, this Tamil land, has been soaked in devotion for millennia. One of the most important expressions of the Tamil language has been Thevaram, which is an outpouring of devotion. Using human emotion as an escalator for our growth, using human emotion as a way to transcend all limitations. These outpourings of human emotion and devotion where it is because of the devotee that the divine exists – that’s how far these outpourings go.”

Kids to Perform Thevarams at Adiyogi

Children below 12 years of age can now perform Thevarams at Adiyogi and will receive prizes for their performance. The opportunity promises to attract kids to delve into devotional aspects of Indian culture and celebrate the selfless works of widely acclaimed sages and poet-saints whose contribution to human well-being transcends the limitation of time.
