Controversy arose over Shiv Sena’s election symbol

MUMBAI, 14 OCTOBER, 2022 (GPN): In Maharashtra, Eknath Shinde, who became the Chief Minister of the state after revolting in Shiv Sena, had staked his claim on Shiv Sena. On the other hand, Udhav Thackeray, former Chief Minister and son of Balasaheb Thackeray, is also staking his claim on Shiv Sena.

The fight between the two first reached the Supreme Court then later the Election Commission. In the interim decision of the Election Commission on October 10, the Udvav faction was given the burning torch symbol and Shiv Sena Udhav Balasaheb Thackeray.

While the Eknath Shinde faction was given the name Balasahebanchi Shiv Sena (ie Balasaheb’s Shiv Sena) with two swords bearing the shield as the election symbol. Now the Samata Party has staked its claim on the election symbol (the Burning Torch) given to the Udhav’s faction.

Samata Party’s media spokesman in-charge Ashish Chowdhary said that since 1996, the Samata Party is contesting the election on the symbol of a burning torch. Party’s national president Uday Mandal has written a letter to the commission questioning the decision of the Election Commission. But no satisfactory reply has been received from the Commission.

Questioning the election symbol given to the Udvav faction, Uday Mandal has said that the Election Commission is destroying smaller parties under the pressure of big political parties. Big parties suffer from small and regional parties. The Samata Party is active in many states and is preparing for elections, so the decision of the Election Commission is a conspiracy. This threatens democracy.Ends
