TODAY’S TOP NEWS: 9th OCTOBER, 2022 (GPN):

Today is Sharad Purnima . This religious festival is celebrated on the full moon day of the Hindu lunar month of Ashvin . The full-moon night is celebrated differently in different cultural regions of the country.

On this auspicious day, many divine pairs like Radha Krishna, Shiva Parvati, and Lakshmi Narayan are worshipped along with the moon and are offered flowers and kheer (a sweet dish made of rice and milk).

Deities in temples are usually dressed in white, signifying the brightness of the moon. Many people observe a full day of fasting on this night.

This day is particularly significant as on this day, people fast and worship. It is also known as the Arogya Parv or Health Festival. The moon of Sharad Purnima is said to bring the blessing of health in its rays. It is also known as Kaumudi, or Kojagari Purnima.

On Sharad Purnima, Goddess Lakshmi is also worshipped. This day is celebrated as the birth of Hindu deity Shree Lakshmi Devi as she emerged from the Samudra Manthan from Shirsagar Churning the ocean with the help of Vasuki, Mount Meru and Shree Hari Vishnu in the form of kurma at the base with Devas on one side and the Asuras on the other.

It is also observed as a harvest festival in many states across the country. On this festival, kheer, a dish made of rice and milk, is kept in the light of the moon. It is said that eating kheer kept under the moon’s rays cures all diseases.

Also today is Maharishi Valmiki Jayanti Valmiki (Born out of Ant Hill after deep penance and meditation) was the Adikavi (First Poet) who wrote the Ramayana Kavya (First Poem) in praise of Shree Ram. Ramayana Kavya which consists of 24,000 verses and 7 cantos (Kandas) including the UttaraKanda (canto). His original name was Ratnakara who actually was the lost son of Sage Prachesta and was brought up by a hunter who found this lost child, The name Valmiki was conferred to him by Sage Narada when he became Maharishi.As per Ramayana, Shri Rama met Valmiki during his period of exile and interacted with him. Later, Valmiki gave shelter to Devi Sita in his hermitage when Rama banished her. Kusha and Lava, the twin sons of Shri Rama were born in his hermitage. Valmiki taught Ramayana to both twins.

800 crore Rs works of this expansion project are being conducted in two phases. In the first phase, works worth Rs 351 crore have been completed. PM Modi will inaugurate these works of the first phase on October 11. The second Phase will be completed in 2023-24.
