Wockhardt Hospital, Mumbai Central engages with Mumbai’s “HeartLine” BEST to spread awareness on World Heart Day

MUMBAI, 28th SEPTEMBER, 2022 (GPN): Heart diseases are leading cause of death in India and a burden on our healthcare system.  On the occasion of World Heart Day, Wockhardt Hospital, Mumbai Central had engaged with BEST to educate and create awareness of heart diseases by teaching CPR to 100 plus BEST staff members. BEST is the the heart line of Mumbaikar as on an average 1.9 million passengers travel by it.

Speaking on this, Dr Ravi Gupta, Consultant Cardiologist at Wockhardt Hospital, Mumbai Central said, “This is unfortunate situation of our country where we are losing young people due to heart attacks and cardiac arrest which goes unnoticed. The heart cases are increasing every year. One of the major reason for heart attack in Indians is they are genetically prone to develop heart attack, adoption of western lifestyles which leads to change in mutation hence we are prone to heart attack. Second reason is increase in stress among young people, as these patients are more prone of developing heart problems. Even if you don’t have any symptoms, you must check diabetes and blood pressure along with stress test, 2D Echo, Cholesterols and EGC once a year.

Dr Anilkumar Singal, CMO, BEST Mumbai, said, “To reduce the burden of cardiovascular disease amongst employees, BEST started “Swast Hyriday Abhiyan” in 2016. The campaign has been proved effective as there is a significant reduction in no of employees requiring Angioplasty, Bypass surgeries in last 7 years. As the cardiologist is more concerned about the possibility of increasing in CVD events in post covid era, we are relaunching the said campaign in order to protect our employees”.

Accordingly, to WHO report, globally one in three deaths – 17.9 million a year — is due to cardiovascular diseases and 86 per cent of these could be prevented or delayed through prevention and treatment.Ends
