Moscow presents Tourism and Business potential for the Indian Market
MUMBAI, SEPTEMBER 15, 2022 (GPN) –The 3 Day event at OTM Mumbai 2022 Bosster Edition, concluded today on a high note. Saint-Petersburg emerged as the most popular outbound destination at the largest Indian tourist exhibition “OTM 2022: The Gateway to India’s Travel Markets”, Mumbai at JIO World Convention Centre, BKC, Mumbai. St. Petersburg presened itself as a multifaceted travel destination for Indian travellers.

The exhibition program and booth of the city on the Neva river attracted the special attention of visitors. The City Tourism Committee presented a colorful presentation of North Venice as part of the initiative of the Russian House in Mumbai to celebrate the 55th anniversary of the establishment of sisterhood between the two cities.Once known as Leningrad and before that Petrograd, Saint Petersburg, Russia, is the country’s second-largest city. Set next to the Neva River, close to the Baltic Sea, this city is home to over 5 million plus people.

It’s the world’s northernmost city, founded by Peter the Great and named after Saint Peter the apostle. Once home to the Tsars of Russia, it is today known as the country’s cultural capital.

The solemn program was opened by Deputy Chairman of the Committee for Tourism Development of Saint-Petersburg Yulia Kuzenskaya, Consul General of the Russian Federation in Mumbai Alexei Surovtsev and Director of the Russian House in Mumbai Elena Remizova, who noted the particular importance of increasing the interest of the Indian public not only in visiting Saint-Petersburg, but also in Russia as a whole, what is crucial in current conditions.

To fulfill this goal are served the popular combined routes presented at the exhibition, such as “Two Cities – A Million Impressions” (Moscow and Saint- Petersburg) or “Silver Necklace of Russia”, which unites 11 regions of the Northwestern Federal District. The special presentations of Moscow and Saint-Petersburg received a very warm response from the Indian audience and widespread press coverage.

Moscow participated in the largest outbound tourism exhibition Outbound Travel Mart (OTM) in Mumbai with a Grand Booth, where it had demonstrated its Tourism and MICE potential. The event took place from 13 to 15 September in the Jio World Convention Centre.

Moscow City Tourism Committee is represented by the ANO «Project Office for the Development of Tourism and Hospitality of Moscow». The Moscow delegation, headed by Ms. Alina Arutyunova, Deputy Chairman of Moscow City Tourism Committee, held talks with representatives of the India Tourism Industry to further strengthen its relationship with India and had organised a special media meet on the inaugural day.

The growth rate of Inbound International Trips from India to Moscow exceeds the level of all Outbound International Trips from India. Thus, according to the India Ministry of Tourism, for the period 2016-2019, the total annual growth rate of inbound international trips from India to Moscow was 15%, and the number of inbound international trips to Moscow from India grew 1.8 times: from 61.4 thousand to 109 thousand trips.

During the pandemic, it was expected that the number of inbound international trips from India to Moscow would decrease to 58 thousand trips, but it was noted that 48% of Indian travelers visited Moscow twice in 2021. According to Federal Agency for Tourism, in 2021, the tourist flow from India to Moscow has recovered by 40% compared to the pre-pandemic 2019.
