1. The Ministry of Tribal Affairs and the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, conducts door-to-door screening for TB in over 68,000 villages under Aashwasan campaign.

2. University Grant Commission, UGC has declared twenty-one universities as fake. In a letter, UGC said that 21 institutions are functioning in self-styled manner across the country, which are not recognized by the commission.

3. Veteran Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad has resigned from all positions, including primary membership, from the Congress party.

4. The Supreme Court called for an expert committee and an all-party meeting to discuss the issue of freebies. A petition had sought the deregistration of political parties who offer freebies during and after elections.

5. Govt making necessary policy changes to strengthen MSME sector, says Dr. Jitendra Singh. He has called for linking up Start-Ups with Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) sector.

6. One Nation One Fertilizer Scheme is going to be implemented in the country from 2nd October 2022. Under this scheme all types of fertilizers will be sold in India under the same brand name ‘Bharat’.

7. Union Minister Piyush Goyal announced that the Pradhan Mantri Gati Shakti National Master Plan will now be linked to geospatial maps to prevent unnecessary cost escalation. This linking will help in developing future infrastructure in a planned manner, curbing cost escalation and saving taxpayers money.

1. Several mediators and arbitrators have urged the central government for a probe into the “illegal acts” of Chief Justice of India (CJI) N. V. Ramana for his alleged role in the setting up of the Hyderabad-based International Arbitration and Mediation Centre (IAMC).

CJI Ramana had inaugurated the IAMC in December last year in the presence of Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekar Rao at Nanakramguda on the outskirts of Hyderabad.

The Lucknow bench of Allahabad High Court on Friday reserved its order on the anticipatory bail plea moved by MLA Abbas Ansari, mafia-turned politician Mukhtar Ansari’s son, in connection with an arms licence case. Abbas has been accused of obtaining a gun licence from Lucknow and getting it transferred to Delhi where he purchased many arms using the changed address.

1. Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman met Deputy Treasury Secretary USA Wally Adeyemo in New Delhi. The two sides exchanged views on global economic and financial sector issues.

2. ICICI Bank, has increased its interest rates on fixed deposits of more than ₹2 Cr to ₹5 Cr. The new rates are in effect as of August 26, 2022, according to the bank’s official website, the bank will provide an interest rate on fixed deposits with maturities ranging from 7 days to 10 years ranging from 3.50% to 5.90%.

Fixed deposits maturing in 46 days to 60 days will now offer an interest rate of 4.00% and term deposits maturing in 61 days to 90 days will now offer an interest rate of 4.75%.

1. Olympic champion javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra on Friday scripted history as he became the first Indian to clinch a Diamond League Meeting title by winning the Lausanne leg.

2. The 89.08m throw was his third career-best effort. His second throw measured 85.18m before passing on his third attempt.

Before Chopra, discus thrower Vikas Gowda is the only Indian to have finished in top-three in a Diamond League Meet. Gowda had finished second twice — in New York in 2012 and in Doha in 2014 — and third on two occasions — Shanghai and Eugene in 2015.

3. The Asia Cup 2022 will kick off tomorrow with a match between Sri Lanka and Afghanistan. On the other hand, defending champions India will kick-start its campaign with a match against arch-rivals Pakistan on 28th August.

Linthoi defeated Brazil’s Bianca Reis in women’s 57-kg category final at Cadet World Championships 2022 on Friday. She scripted history by becoming the world champion by winning India’s first-ever gold medal at the Worlds across any age group.

6. World football governing body FIFA has lifted the ban on All India Football Federation (AIFF). The decision was taken after FIFA received confirmation that mandate of the committee of administrators set up to assume the powers of AIFF Executive Committee had been terminated, FIFA said. FIFA added Under-17 Women’s World Cup 2022 can now be held in India as planned.
