“Every City In The Country Will Definitely Support This Campaign”: Sangli-Miraj-Kupwad Commissioner Shri. Nitin Kapdanis Endorses Pune Bikers’ #Ride4Soil

As a continuation of the journey for the global Save Soil movement, riders from Pune have begun the #Ride4soil, part of a two week-long campaign flagged off by Sadhguru on 24 June at the Isha Yoga Center in Coimbatore.

PUNE, 2nd JULY, 2022 (GPN): This morning, Save Soil volunteers gathered to bid a farewell to 21 bike riders at the Jagannath B. Shetty Cultural Centre of Buntara Bhavana Banquet Hall in Baner, Pune. These riders, all with 350cc bikes, will be joined by many others along the way, and will travel to various towns in Maharashtra, Karnataka and Goa over the next 3 days to widen the reach of the Save Soil campaign.

Supporting the riders on bike, Commissioner of Sangli-Miraj-Kupwad, Shri. Nitin Kapadnis explained, “Sangli-Miraj and Kupwad Municipal Corporation has started the Save Soil Campaign under the state government’s Maajhi Vasundhara Abhiyan. For the last one month we have been taking various initiatives in the area of Municipal Corporation in the context of Save the Soil. Last year, the corporation got the second position at the state level. We covered a lot of the elements but we hadn’t included the soil element yet. This year, the main objective of this campaign will be to save our soil. We have also received good response from the citizens in the municipal area.”

“Save Soil movement is very important to save our land, and soil from desertification and keep the land in good condition for future generations. Our corporation is the first to implement this campaign at the national level. And I am sure every city will definitely be involved in this campaign,” he further expressed.

“We’re doing this ride essentially because all of us believe the Save Soil movement is extremely important at the moment. I think at the end of the campaign globally we should be able to achieve a population of over 4.5 billion to be able to accommodate the governments to kind of cheer up, come together and save the organic content of the soil,” said Pavan Choudhary,  lead rider and volunteer, and a professional biker from PCMC.

“There could be no better time than the rains for this ride,” he continued. “Essentially soil is also responsible for saving the water; it’s a big water conservator. With the depleting fresh water content of the globe, I think it’s extremely important we spread this message.”

The riders have plans to reach maximum population from Pune to Goa, with stops arranged in cities and towns like Shirwal, Sangli, Satara, Kolhapur, Nipani, Belgaum, Sanquelim, Surla, Ponda, Margao, Verna, Vasco and Panjim through local events to spread awareness about the save soil campaign where Sadhguru himself couldn’t ride during his 100-days solo bike journey for soil.

54-years old Kedar Rajpathak, former Vice President of PIAGGIO, said, “I’m from the automotive background and after retirement I am pursuing travelling around the world. It’s my passion. And learning about this ride I immediately jumped into this because if we don’t have fertile soil for tomorrow our children will definitely suffer.”

Pratap Survase, one of the riders, who runs a software research firm said, “It’s all for soil. This is one of the most underestimated parts and coming from a farming background I know how soil plays an important role in our lives.”

The #Ride4Soil campaign aims to educate rural people of India, particularly farmers, about the rapid soil extinction across the planet and invite individuals to take action and support governments to implement necessary policies to improve organic content in soil.

On 24th June, Sadhguru, Founder-Isha Foundation, flagged off a group of bike riders in front of Adiyogi, the same place where he culminated his 100 days long journey for soil as a solo rider which began on 21st March in London. During his journey he has passed through 27 nations in Europe, Central Asia and the Middle East and 10 states in India. These riders are travelling to various parts of the country to cover around 100 cities spreading the movement’s message.
