Praneeth Venugopal and Suraj Bikkannavar celebrating after winning the Men’s Double Title at the Gadre Gaspar Dias 2022

PANAJI (GPN)/ Day 11 match report: Tejas Shevde and Olivia Chowgule emerged mixed-doubles champions, while Suraj Bikkannavar-Praneeth Venugopal bagged the men’s doubles title at the Gadre Gaspar Dias Open 2022 tennis championships being played at the Clube Tennis de Gaspar Dias courts-Miramar and at Panjim Gymkhana.

The annual tennis tournament by Clube Tennis de Gaspar Dias, Goa’s first tennis club, is being organized under the aegis of the Goa State  Tennis Association (GSTA), with support from Gadre Group.

In the mixed-doubles final, Tejas and Olivia scored an easy 6-1, 6-0 victory over the Santosh/Melanie Chowgule combine. Goa’s top players Tejas and Olivia, who has already won the U-16 girls title, will be in action in their respective men’s and women’s singles finals in the concluding fixtures of the 11-day tennis championships.

Olivia, who is in the hunt for triple crown, will take on Ritika Dawalkar from Kolhapur in the final. Earlier in the semis, Ritika, who is also the U-12 champion, dismantled Rebecca George with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep.

Tejas’s singles final opponent, Praneeth Venugopal from Bangalore meanwhile, lifted the men’s doubles crown as he partnered Suraj Bikkannavar in a 4-6,6-4,10-7 triumph over Kafil Kadvekar/Ashwin Narsinghani duo.

Ashwin was, however, successful in winning the U-16 boys trophy as he scored a stunning 6-2, 6-0 win against Saiel Gajinkar in the title clash.
