*Why India celebrates Engineers Day on the birth anniversary of M. Visvesvaraya*

He is best remembered for the instrumental role he played in the construction of the Krishna Raja Sagara Lake and dam in 1924. He was knighted as the Commander of the Order of the Indian Empire (KCIE) by the British for his contributions to the society in 1915

He was the chief engineer responsible for the *construction of the Krishna Raja Sagara Dam* in Mysore as well as as the chief designer of the *flood protection system for the city of Hyderabad* . Due to his outstanding contribution to the society, Government of India conferred ‘Bharat Ratna’ on this legend in the year 1955.” He was also awarded the British knighthood by King George V, and hence has the honorific “sir”. His birthday, 15 September is celebrated as the Engineers day. He also designed and patented the automatic weir water floodgates, first installed at the *Khadakwasla reservoir, Pune 1903.* He transformed the Mysore state into what was then known as ‘model state’.

The Visakhapatnam port was in danger of being eroded from the sea. Visvesvaraya with his high intelligence and capabilities came up with a good solution to solve this issue.

*HOW IT WORKS*

*How a Induction cooker works*

Induction cooking heats a cooking vessel by electrical induction, instead of by thermal conduction from a flame, or an electrical heating element. … An induction hob contains a coil of copper wire underneath the ceramic plate, and when a cooking pot is placed on top an alternating electric current is passed through it.

An induction cooktop does not use more electricity and is far more energy-efficient than gas or electric cooktops. With induction cooking, 85-90% of the heat energy generated is used for cooking. … This makes induction cooking a lot more energy-efficient.
