‘Program for Legal Education and Awareness’ (PLEA): Journo Addresses Advocates on Media Laws

MUMBAI, 2nd JANUARY 2020 (GPN):  Desai Foundation for Change (DFC) an NGO, that’s been doing yeoman service to the legal fraternity since 2 years, recently arranged a free legal training session under its initiative ‘Program for Legal Education and Awareness’ (PLEA), for law students and junior advocates at Indian Merchant Chamber, Mumbai. Mr. Edrich Miranda, a senior Journalist and legal advisor was invited as a Guest Speaker, who lectured on Media laws.

During the session, Mr. Miranda spoke mainly about the substantive part of media laws, associated with Contempt, Bombay Police Act, The Cr.P.C; Defamation Criminal and Civil, Public Incitement etc which comes under the IPC, he highlighted the inherent dangers in erroneous or reckless reporting, which can invite serious consequences and how to prosecute and defend the same.

The NGO has formulated program ‘PLEA’, which is directed towards final year law students and young legal professionals to introduce themselves to the practical aspects of the law. Senior Lawyers and Practicing professionals are invited as a Guest Speakers who not only speaks on varying topics that can enable the participants to be more adept towards the practical aspects of being a legal professional but also help them in understanding on their ability to specialize in areas such as Family, Criminal, Property, Corporate, Insurance, and Banking etc on law front.

The session gives participants an opportunity to interact with the experts, resolve queries, and learn from their experience. Program is held at Indian Merchant Chamber, Mumbai every Saturday for which entry is absolutely free but prior registration and confirmation is mandatory.

Topic for forth coming program i.e. Saturday, 4th Jan., 2020 is on ‘Intellectual property Rights’ time: 11:30 AM to 4:00 PM.
