Another train accident due to lack of overbridge in Gaikwad Nagar, Chembur

MUMBAI, 20 MAY 2025 (GPN) – On one hand, the Railway Ministry is running state-of-the-art trains like Vande Bharat across the country and is also working towards running bullet trains, on the other hand, the citizens of Gaikwad Nagar area of Chembur on the Harbour Line under Central Railway are having to cross the railway tracks at the risk of their lives.

On Sunday, once again, Ashok Devkule died after being hit by a local train while crossing the railway tracks. Eyewitnesses said that at many places, citizens still have to cross the railway tracks at the risk of their lives. Due to this, a large number of accidents occur while crossing the railway tracks on Harbour Road every year, but even then the Railway Ministry is not taking concrete steps to prevent these accidents. It is noteworthy that at many places between Chembur and Govandi railway stations on the Harbour line of the Central Railway, school children, women and senior citizens have to cross the railway tracks in the open from morning to evening.Gaikwad Nagar is an neighbourhood in Budha Nagar, Chedda Nagar, Mumbai Harbour, Mumbai, Mumbai Metropolitan Region, Maharashtra, India.

Apart from this, soil testing has also been done for the construction of the bridge. But despite all this, no decision has been taken by the Municipal Corporation and the Railway Administration regarding the construction of the bridge yet. Khan said that the residents of Gaikwad have to cross the railway tracks openly to go to Subhash Nagar in Chembur. A large number of people have also died while crossing the railway tracks. Similarly, on Sunday, Ashok Devkule (48), a resident of Gaikwad Nagar, who was the sole breadwinner of his family, passed away. He died after being hit by a local train.
