MUMBAI, 21 NOVEMBER, 2024 (GPN): Union Minister of State for Social Justice Ramdas Athawale has informed that he will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi and discuss the need to make voting mandatory for all adult citizens and enforce compulsory voting law to change the picture of low voter turnout. Ramdas Athawale has cast his family vote in Gandhinagar east of Bandra. He voted with wife Seema Athawale, son Jeet Athawale. He appealed to voters to vote in large numbers, voters should first vote and than leave.
As Exit Polls are being predicted Mahayuti is poised to retain power in Maharashtra, Union Minister and RPI(A) chief Ramdas Athawale said on Wednesday that the ruling alliance will get a clear majority with 160-165 seats.

“The way in the last 10 years, development has happened under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Maharashtra has received at least Rs.10 lakh crore from the central government. Maharashtra has benefitted from the central government’s schemes. In the last 2.5 years, whatever decisions taken by the government of Eknath Shinde, Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar, will also benefit Mahayuti,” he added.

Ramdas Athawale visited the polling booths at Navjeevan Vidya Mandir in Gandhinagar area of Bandra East on Wednesday afternoon. Photographs of many candidates and leaders were taken while voting at the polling booth here. However, Ramdas Athawale recalled that no photographer was allowed inside with him during the voting. Despite repeated requests by the Election Commission to let a photographer inside with an official permission slip, the police did not allow even one single photographer.

Democracy needs to increase voter turnout. More than 80 to 90 percent voting is required. However, he expressed regret that the low percentage of voting is a tragedy for democracy as the voting is 50 percent or in between. Athawale also expressed the opinion that more efforts are needed to increase the voting rate.

Maharashtra polled 58.22 per cent votes till 5 pm on Wednesday. The elections saw a keen contest between Mahayuti and MVA. It was first assembly poll in the state after splits in Shiv Sena and NCP.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi held several rallies in Maharashtra to boost prospects of BJP and Mahayuti candidates. He strongly attacked Congress in his rallies and emphasised ‘hum ek hain to safe hain’ and Batange toh katenge’ slogan.

Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, BJP chief and Union Health Minister JP Nadda, Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari also campaigned in the state.

Ramdas Athawale after casting his vote said, “Maha Vikas Aghadi has played games with Vinod Tawde. Bharatiya Janata Party general secretary and senior leader Vinod Tawde was accused of distributing cash in exchange for votes, They are trying to defame Tawde. The Election Commission investigate this matter and take necessary action on MVA for defaming and maligning party image.”  Apart from this, Ramdas Athawale claimed that Mahayuti will get between 165 and 170 seats.

In fact, just a day before the Maharashtra assembly elections, the Bahujan Vikas Aghadi made serious allegations against BJP’s national general secretary Vinod Tawde.  Bahujan Vikas Aghadi MLA Kshitij Thakur and his workers alleged that Vinod Tawde had come to distribute money before the Maharashtra assembly elections.

After this, Bahujan Vikas Aghadi workers surrounded Vinod Tawde in Palghar’s Nalasopara Assembly Constituency and created a ruckus.  However, veteran BJP leader Tawde has categorically rejected these allegations.

Maharashtra Congress president Nana Patole along with Baramati MP and NCP (SP) leader Supriya Sule have been accused of Bitcoin scam by former Pune IPS officer Rabindranath Patil amid Maharashtra Assembly Elections 2024.  After this, a big controversy arose in the region.  Meanwhile, Rajya Sabha MP Ramdas Athawale maintained that their reaction has come. He said, Supriya Sule and Nana Patole should be investigated in this matter.

Most Exit Polls also predicted that Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) would put up a strong show in polls but is unlikely to cross the majority mark in the 288-member assembly. The majority mark in the Maharashtra assembly is 145
