
‘Townhall’ program at Lala Lajpatrai College for voter awareness
Participation of 700 volunteers of National Service Scheme Force (NSS)
MUMBAI, 24 OCTOBER, 2024 (GPN): Voter awareness campaign ‘Town Hall’ was conducted in Lala Lajpatrai College today in the background of the upcoming assembly elections. Under the direction of Sanjay Yadav, Collector of Mumbai City, the Sweep Cell of Collectorate Mumbai, Lala Lajpatrai College, Mumbai University’s National Service Scheme Planning Team and NGO Mark Your Presence (MYP) jointly carried out this campaign.
The Election Commission of India has undertaken a campaign called ‘Systematic Voters Education and Electoral Participation (SWEEP)’ to create awareness among voters along with new voter registration. In Mumbai City’s ten assembly constituencies, Under the joint efforts and guidance of Mr. Sanjay Yadav, Mumbai City District Collector and Additional District Election Officer and Dr. Vijay Suryavanshi, Coordinating Officer of ‘Sweep’ Department of Mumbai City the voting awareness is being spread through various activities.The main objective of this campaign is to increase voter participation in the voting process , increase awareness about the voting process , and convey the information about the process to every voter. The main goal of the campaign is to make democracy truly participatory.
700 volunteers of National Service Scheme ( NSS) from around 15 colleges of Mumbai city participated in this campaign today. Explaining the role of students in strengthening democracy, Dr. Suryavanshi said that there is a need to promote voter turnout and the role of youth in the country is very important in this direction. He appealed to the youth to contribute in the upcoming assembly elections by being ‘democratic ambassadors’. On this occasion, an oath was also administered to the people present in the hall.
Mumbai City Sweep Chief Coordination Officer Farog Mukadam , Principal of Lala Lajpatrai College Prof. Dr. Harmeet Kaur Bhasin , Member of Mumbai City Sweep Committee and NSS District Coordinator Kranti Uke Indurkar , NSS Cell OSD of Mumbai University Sushil Shinde and Chaitanya Prabhu contributed a lot to make the program a success.
