Last month MP Dr.Shrikant Eknath Shinde Secured Rs. 585 Crore Water Supply Scheme For Dombivli with consistent follow up..The Kalyan Lok Sabha MP founder of Jan Samvad Yatra has organized it to assess the situation at the grassroots level in preparation for the forthcoming elections. : In a major boost to the water supply infrastructure of Dombivli, a separate water scheme worth Rs.. 585 crore has been approved for the city. This project, aimed at reviving the Shahad Water Supply Scheme, is the result of persistent follow-up by Kalyan Lok Sabha MP Dr. Shrikant Shinde, ensuring improved water supply for Dombivli’s residential and industrial areas.
The increasing demand for water, combined with insufficient pressure from the Barvi water supply scheme, had led to frequent complaints from the Dombivli industrial area and nearby residents. To address this, the Shahad Water Supply Scheme is being rejuvenated to provide an abundant and reliable water supply to Kalyan-Dombivli, surrounding areas, and the industrial zone. The Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) has sanctioned a budget of Rs 585 crore for the project, which will include the laying of new water channels and other infrastructure enhancements.
MP Dr. Shrikant Shinde consistently pursued this revival with the state government, MIDC, and the State Water Supply Department, leading to the project’s approval. This will significantly alleviate the water issues faced by citizens in Kalyan, Dombivli, and surrounding regions.
The Shahad Water Supply Scheme, built in phases from 1966, previously catered to Ulhasnagar, Kalyan, Dombivli, and the Dombivli industrial area. However, after the implementation of the Barvi Water Supply Scheme, Shahad’s water supply was limited to Ulhasnagar. Currently, 120 D.L. (deciliters) of water are supplied daily from the Shahad scheme. The revival aims to utilize the full capacity of 180 D.L. per day, with 50 D.L. allocated for the Dombivli industrial area.
Under the Rs. 585 crore budget, various infrastructure upgrades will be undertaken, including the construction of a new 2500 GM capacity water storage tank, installation of new pumping machines, and repairs to the water treatment centre and filter house. Additionally, roads in the jackwell, pumping station, and water treatment centre areas will be repaired and strengthened. A new centre for purifying backwash water from the filter will also be set up.
