State Minister and NCP leader Chhagan Bhujbal says that it is disheartening that in the past ten days, a Taluka Pramukh and an NCP leader have been murdered.
He says, “The police were aware of the threats and had provided Y-category security. However, their responsibility goes beyond simply offering protection—they must investigate the source of these threats and identify those behind them.”
“The police should take swift and strict action. I see no political angle in this and have no doubts about that. Whether there is a personal motive behind the incidents is something the police need to investigate,” he adds.

Former Maharashtra Minister and Ajit Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Baba Siddique was shot dead outside his son Zeeshan Siddique’s office near the Colgate Ground in Nirmal Nagar (Neelam Nagar) near Khetwadi in Bandra East.
The crime branch took over the probe and is investigating the angles of business rivalry, contract killing, and threat over a Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) project.
The officials in a recent development confirmed that two of the assailants have been arrested while the police are on the lookout for the third alleged accused in the case.
Haryana-resident Gurmail Baljit Singh, accused of being one of the shooters who killed NCP leader Baba Siddique, has a prior criminal history, including a murder case against him, police said on Sunday.
Twenty-three-year-old Singh’s family said they disowned him 11 years ago and have called for exemplary punishment for his actions.

NCP (SP) supremo Sharad Pawar condemns the killing of former minister Baba Siddique in Mumbai, expressing concerns over the deteriorating law and order situation in Maharashtra. In a sharp criticism of the State government, Mr. Pawar demands those in power to not only announce investigations but to take responsibility and step down from their positions.
“The collapse of law and order in Maharashtra is a cause for concern. My heartfelt tributes to Baba Siddique and condolences to his family,” the NCP patriarch adds in a post on X.Describing the incident as “regrettable,” Mr. Pawar warns that if the Home Minister (BJP’s Devendra Fadnavis) and others in power continue to handle the State’s administration lightly, it would set off alarm bells for the common man.“The shooting of a former minister in Mumbai, the financial capital of the country, should not be taken lightly. Those in power must accept responsibility, not just announce investigations,” he added.
“Siddique’s murder is “shocking and shameful” for the State,” NCP (SP) State president Jayant Patil said. “Atrocities against women continue in the State and gang war has become a routine in a city like Pune. It has become clear that law and order in the State has reached its lowest. If a leader from the ruling alliance is not safe, how can the government keep the common man safe?” he said.
In a statement, Mr. Patil also noted that earlier a BJP MLA in the State had opened fire in a police station. While a former corporator was killed during a Facebook live session. The Punjab-based gangster Lawrence Bishnoi was also named in the killing of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala.

LATEST UPDATE:“The police are thoroughly investigating the incident. The culprits in this incident will not be spared at all, no matter who they are. Strict action will be taken against the culprits,” said Fadnavis, who is the state’s Home Minister.
“Fifteen teams of the Crime Branch are on the job,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (Detection) Datta Nalawade said.
Asked whether any possible role of Lawrence Bishnoi is being probed, he said: “All angles including the Lawrence Bishnoi angle are being examined by the police.”
The Lawrence Bishnoi gang has not only claimed responsibility for the murder of Baba Siddique but also threatened anyone who helps actor Salman Khan.
A post on Facebook by one Shibu Lonkar, believed to be Bishnoi gang associate Shubham Rameshwar Lonkar, claimed the responsibility. A police team is in Pune to track him down.
In the post, Lonkar claimed that Siddique had been killed because he was linked to India’s most wanted terrorist Dawood Ibrahim, was also close to Salman Khan and because of the death of Anuj Thapan, one of the arrested suspects in the shooting outside Mr Khan’s house, in police custody.
“We do not have any enmity with anyone but whoever helps Salman Khan and the Dawood gang, keep your accounts in order,” Lonkar wrote in Hindi on Facebook. Asked about this, police said that the veracity is being checked.
It may be mentioned in 2018, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has attached Rs 462 crore worth property as part of a probe involving an SRA scam during the tenure of Siddique as MHADA Chairman.
On Sunday morning, the post-mortem was conducted at the Cooper Hospital after which the body was handed over to the family for cremation at the Bada Kabrastan in Marine Lines.
After the FIR at the Nirmal Nagar police station, the Crime. Branch-CID took over the investigations.
