SECURITY BEEFED OUTSIDE SALMAN KHAN’S HOUSE -In April, multiple bullet rounds were allegedly fired outside the actor’s house in Mumbai by Anuj Thapan who later hanged himself in Jail.
MUMBAI, 12 OCTOBER, 2024 (GPN):  Shiv Sena (UBT) leaders strongly condemn the assassination of former State Minister and NCP leader Baba Siddique, raising questions on the law and order situation in Maharashtra.
This is the second murder after NCP leader from Byculla- Sachin Rammurath Kurmi was murdered after being stabbed 20 times.Kurmi’s family is suspicious of a political angle behind his murder and Chhagan Bhujbal requested to intervene as he had represented the assembly constituency between 1990-95 as a Shiv Sena MLA and Kurmi was one of his supporters.Bhujbal met Mumbai police commissioner Vivek Phansalkar and requested him to take action in the murder case from all angles.
Kurmi, who was holding the Byculla Taluka president position in the party, was stabbed at least 20 times in the Ghodapdeo area of Byculla when he was out for a walk after dinner on October 5. He succumbed to the injuries. The attack took place three months after Kurmi asked the police to help as he believed that his life was in danger. He has also filed a written complaint with the Kala Chowki police.
Taking to X, Aditya Thackeray said, “The murder of Baba Siddiqui ji is shocking. We pray for his soul to rest in peace and send our condolences to his family and friends. This, sadly reflects on the law and order situation in Maharashtra. The complete collapse of administration, law and order.”
Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut says, “In Maharashtra, there has been a good law and order situation. That’s why big industries have come to Mumbai. The murder of Baba Siddique had happened yesterday, who was a former state minister…He was provided with state security and he was murdered. What does it mean? It is a failure of the CM…The way you (CM) have used police is the reason that now there is no fear of the police and law. Murders are happening anytime in broad daylight…Till now, we have said that state Home Minister Devendra Fadnavis is a complete failure. He should resign. But now, the Governor should intervene and remove Devendra Fadnavis from his post of Home Minister.”
Shiv Sena (UBT) spokesperson Anand Dubey also condemned the killing and said, “If former MLAs are not safe in our city Mumbai, if leaders of the government are not safe then how will this government protect the common people?”
“If they cannot keep their MLAs and former ministers safe then Home Minister Devendra Fadnavis should resign. He has no right to continue as the Home Minister. Eknath Shinde has no right to continue as the CM of the state. There is firing on the streets of Mumbai in broad daylight. Three rounds are being fired and people are being shot at… Is this law and order? The criminals have no fear. The policies of the Mahayuti and BJP had maligned the politics,” he alleged.
Siddique was shot dead by unidentified attackers in Mumbai on Saturday evening. Siddique, a three-time MLA from Bandra West, had joined Ajit Pawar’s NCP earlier in February this year after resigning from the Congress.
Mumbai Additional CP Paramjit Singh Dahiya confirmed the arrest of two suspects.
“The incident occurred around 9:30 pm in Nirmal Nagar. Baba Siddique was taken to Lilavati Hospital after being shot. Two suspects have been arrested, and the Mumbai Crime Branch is investigating the case, The weapon for murder, A 9.9mm pistol used in the firing, has been recovered” Dahiya told GPN.

State Minister and NCP leader Chhagan Bhujbal says that it is disheartening that in the past ten days, a Taluka Pramukh and an NCP leader have been murdered.

He says, “The police were aware of the threats and had provided Y-category security. However, their responsibility goes beyond simply offering protection—they must investigate the source of these threats and identify those behind them.”

“The police should take swift and strict action. I see no political angle in this and have no doubts about that. Whether there is a personal motive behind the incidents is something the police need to investigate,” he adds.

The officials in a recent development confirmed that two of the assailants have been arrested while the police are on the lookout for the third alleged accused in the case.

Haryana-resident Gurmail Baljit Singh, accused of being one of the shooters who killed NCP leader Baba Siddique, has a prior criminal history, including a murder case against him, police said on Sunday.

NCP (SP) supremo Sharad Pawar condemns the killing of former minister Baba Siddique in Mumbai, expressing concerns over the deteriorating law and order situation in Maharashtra. In a sharp criticism of the State government, Mr. Pawar demands those in power to not only announce investigations but to take responsibility and step down from their positions.

“The collapse of law and order in Maharashtra is a cause for concern. My heartfelt tributes to Baba Siddique and condolences to his family,” the NCP patriarch adds in a post on X.Describing the incident as “regrettable,” Mr. Pawar warns that if the Home Minister (BJP’s Devendra Fadnavis) and others in power continue to handle the State’s administration lightly, it would set off alarm bells for the common man.“The shooting of a former minister in Mumbai, the financial capital of the country, should not be taken lightly. Those in power must accept responsibility, not just announce investigations,” he added.

Shubuu Lonkar (Shubam) an aide of Lawrence Bishnoi (31) running the Bishnoi Gang involved in the murder had posted on his Facebook Live Today, those who are praising Baba Siddique’s decency should remember that he was once involved with Dawood under the MCOCA Act. The reason for this death was to expose Anuj Thapan and the connection between Dawood, Bollywood, politics, and property dealings. We have no enmity with anyone, but whoever helps Salman Khan and the Dawood gang should be prepared to settle their accounts.
Two more people, identified as Shivkumar Gautam and Mohamed Zeeshan Akhtar, are wanted in the case. While Gautam was one of the three shooters in Bandra, Akhtar is believed to have received the contract to murder Siddique.

LATEST UPDATE:“The police are thoroughly investigating the incident. The culprits in this incident will not be spared at all, no matter who they are. Strict action will be taken against the culprits,” said Fadnavis, who is the state’s Home Minister.

“Fifteen teams of the Crime Branch are on the job,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (Detection) Datta Nalawade said.

Asked whether any possible role of Lawrence Bishnoi is being probed, he said: “All angles including the Lawrence Bishnoi angle are being examined by the police.”

The Lawrence Bishnoi gang has not only claimed responsibility for the murder of Baba Siddique but also threatened anyone who helps actor Salman Khan.

A post on Facebook by one Shibu Lonkar, believed to be Bishnoi gang associate Shubham Rameshwar Lonkar, claimed the responsibility. A police team is in Pune to track him down.

In the post, Lonkar claimed that Siddique had been killed because he was linked to India’s most wanted terrorist Dawood Ibrahim, was also close to Salman Khan and because of the death of Anuj Thapan, one of the arrested suspects in the shooting outside Mr Khan’s house, in police custody.

“We do not have any enmity with anyone but whoever helps Salman Khan and the Dawood gang, keep your accounts in order,” Lonkar wrote in Hindi on Facebook. Asked about this, police said that the veracity is being checked.

It may be mentioned in 2018, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has attached Rs 462 crore worth property as part of a probe involving an SRA scam during the tenure of Siddique as MHADA Chairman.

On Sunday morning, the post-mortem was conducted at the Cooper Hospital after which the body was handed over to the family for cremation at the Bada Kabrastan in Marine Lines.

After the FIR at the Nirmal Nagar police station, the Crime. Branch-CID took over the investigations.

Two of the shooters Gurmail Singh (23) from Haryana and Dharamraj Kashyap from Uttar Pradesh were caught by locals and police personnel.

Singh was remanded to police custody till 21 October by a holiday Magistrate’s court.

Kashyap claimed that he was a minor and hence the court ordered a bone ossification test to ascertain his age..

The third shooter Shiv Kumar Gautam managed to escape from the spot, however, efforts are on to track him down.

Police teams are looking for Mohammad Zeeshan Akhtar, the fourth accused, who is suspected to be the handler and is on a run.

After the incident, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde spoke to Deputy Chief Ministers Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar to review the situation.
