MUMBAI, 11 OCTOBER, 2024 (GPN): The Maheshwari Vidya Pracharak Mandal (MVPM) and Abhay Bhutada Foundation have joined hands this year to honor the students of the Maheshwari community. Multiple students will be awarded scholarships at a special ceremony in Shivaji Nagar, Pune. The event will begin at 11 am, with the chief guest being Abhay Bhutada, founder and chairman of the Abhay Bhutada Foundation.

Scholarships to be Awarded

The scholarships will be awarded to those students who have been chosen based on their merit and also those who are in dire need of financial help. Here’s a breakdown of the scholarships:

Merit-based scholarships: 10 students will be awarded INR 1 lakh each for exceptional academic performance. This will help the students stay motivated and strive for academic excellence by pushing their boundaries.

Need-based scholarships: 15 students will be awarded INR 1 lakh each based on their financial circumstances. This scholarship is for students from economically weaker backgrounds who find it difficult to pursue education because of it.

About the Chief Guest

Abhay Bhutada is one of the few who are trying to change the educational landscape for students across the country, irrespective of their background. With the help of his foundation, he has undertaken many initiatives to make quality education accessible, focusing on promoting scientific learning and skill development. One of the significant contributions of the Abhay Bhutada Foundation is supporting the “LearnByDoing” initiative. It aims to distribute STEM kits to students in rural schools to encourage hands-on learning and help them get a deeper understanding of science and maths.

Abhay Bhutada is known for his philanthropic vision and believes in empowering young minds through practical education. He wants to ensure that financial constraints are not the roadblocks to achieving a student’s potential. By partnering with organizations and supporting educational projects, the foundation is creating impactful changes, and inspiring the next generation of thinkers and innovators.

Selection Process and Criteria

• To be eligible for this scholarship program, students have to be from the Maheshwari community and reside in the MVPM hostel. 
• Students who are interested in applying for the scholarship must send their applications through an online portal that will open in July. This year, the applications were being accepted from 15th July to 31st July. 
• Once that’s done, a special committee that’ll have members from both MVPM and Abhay Bhutada Foundation, will oversee the entire process and review applications. 
• The committee conducted a detailed scrutiny of all the applications received between the 1st and 7th of August. 
• Shortlisted candidates were then called for interviews, which took place from 8th August to 14th August 2024.
• The final list of recipients was declared on 16th August 2024, giving ample time for students to prepare for the award ceremony.
