PM Modi to launch Rs. 56,000 crore projects in Maharashtra, ride metro, unveil solar parks..CM Eknath Shinde, Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy CM Ajit Pawar to attend the event
MUMBAI, SACHIN MURDESHWAR: In the battle run for the upcoming Maharashtra Legislative Assembly polls, Prime Minister Narendra Modi would launch a series of projects for Thane City, the bastion of Chief Minister Eknath Shinde – aimed at transforming the transportation in the hustling-bustling city.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lay the foundation stone of Thane Integral Ring Metro Rail Project to be constructed at the cost of around Rs 12,200 crore.
The total length of the project is 29 km with 20 elevated and 2 underground stations. This ambitious infrastructure project is a key initiative to address the growing transportation needs of Thane, a major industrial and commercial hub in Maharashtra.
Modi will also lay the foundation stone of Elevated Eastern. Freeway Extension from Chheda Nagar to Anand Nagar, Thane worth around Rs 3,310 crore. The project will provide seamless connectivity from South Mumbai to Thane.
Modi will also lay the foundation stone of the new Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) to be constructed at a cost of around Rs 700 crore. The high rise administrative building of TMC will provide benefits to citizens of Thane by accommodating most Municipal offices at a centrally located building.
The Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone of Phase-1 of Navi Mumbai Airport Influence Notified Area (NAINA) project worth around Rs 2,550 crore.
The project comprises construction of major arterial roads, bridges, flyovers, underpasses and integrated utility infrastructure. As PM Modi prepares to lay the foundation stone and inaugurate these key infrastructure projects on Saturday, the event is expected to be closely watched, not just for the developmental milestones but for its potential political impact. With the state assembly elections on the horizon and the possibility of the Model Code of Conduct coming into effect shortly, this event marks a pivotal moment in Maharashtra’s political and developmental landscape. By focusing on long-term urban infrastructure development, the ruling government hopes to strengthen its position and connect with voters across Mumbai, Thane, and Navi Mumbai ahead of the elections.
Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar and their Cabinet colleagues would be present in the mega event.
Kalyan MP and Shiv Sena Parliamentary Party leader Dr Shrikant Shinde and Thane Shiv Sena MP Naresh Mhaske among others who would be present.
In Navi Mumbai, the focus will be on the NAINA Integrated Infrastructure Development Project. As part of the Navi Mumbai International Airport’s broader development, NAINA is designed to promote sustainable urbanisation in and around Navi Mumbai. It is expected to provide modern infrastructure to accommodate the area’s burgeoning population, with provisions for housing, commercial establishments, and industrial development. The project is seen as key to boosting the economic prospects of Navi Mumbai and surrounding areas, making it an essential initiative for voters in the region.

Additionally, the construction of the Elevated Eastern Freeway Extension, which will connect Chheda Nagar to Anand Nagar in Thane, will also be launched. This project will provide a crucial transport link between Mumbai and its suburbs, offering faster transit and alleviating the long-standing issue of traffic bottlenecks in this corridor.

The infrastructure projects have a direct impact on urban voters, a crucial segment in the upcoming elections. Urban centres like Mumbai, Thane, and Navi Mumbai are home to a diverse electorate, ranging from the middle class and working professionals to business owners and daily wage labourers. By addressing key issues such as public transport, traffic congestion, and sustainable urban growth, the ruling government is aiming to win over these voter bases.

For the BJP-led government in Maharashtra, showcasing these large-scale projects could help build a narrative of progress and development. With issues like traffic, pollution, and inadequate infrastructure often dominating public discourse in these urban regions, these projects offer the government an opportunity to demonstrate its commitment to resolving them.
