CJI to unveil Bombay High Court’s New Complex at Bandra

MUMBAI, 22 SEPTEMBER, 2024 (GPN):  The new complex of Bombay High Court will be built at Bandra East, Mumbai and the Cornerstone and groundbreaking ceremony will be unveiled on Monday, September 23, 2024 in the presence of Chief Justice Dr. Dhananjay Y Chandrachud.Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Deputy Chief Minister  Devendra Fadnavis , Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, alongwith other Hon’ble Justices of the Supreme Court who have adorned the Bombay High Court viz. Justice B R Gavai, Justice A S Oka, Justice Dipankar Datta, Justice Ujjal Bhuyan and Justice Prasanna B Varale, along with Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya, Hon’ble Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court will be present participate in the ceremony.

Presently , the Bombay High Court , established on 16 August 1862 , is located at Flora Fountain in Mumbai . Built in November 1878, this magnificent building was designed to house only 6 courts and ten judges.

Mumbai is the capital of Maharashtra and it is at the forefront of industrial and economic development. With time, the need for such a building with the infrastructure of the Bombay High Court has arisen.

The new proposed complex will have various facilities like court rooms, hall for judges and registration staff , chambers for lawyers , auditorium , library, banking facilities , medical facilities , cafeteria , parking lot, museum. Also, the building will have all the facilities required for the disabled.
