AAP MLA Atishi Marlena Singh to become Delhi CM post Arvind Kejriwal resignation for 4 months period ahead of assembly polls

AAP MLA Atishi Marlena Singh slated to become Delhi CM for 4 month period ahead of polls

MUMBAI, 16 SEPTEMBER, 2024 (GPN): Arvind Kejriwal resigned from the post of Chief Minister on Tuesday evening. He had announced this two days ago. Atishi was unanimously elected as the leader of the legislative party in the meeting of MLAs called by the Aam Aadmi Party. Atishi has met the Lieutenant Governor and staked claim to form a new government in Delhi.

AAP MLA Atishi Marlena Singh is poised to take over as Chief Minister of Delhi. At the present moment she is the Minister of Education, Public Works, Tourism, Culture, and Women and Child Welfare. AAP Convenor and leader Arvind Kejriwal named Atishi as the next chief minister today on Tuesday 17 September. Kejriwal has submitted his resignation following a meeting with Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena and now he will be referred as the former CM.

1981 born Atishi comes from a family of professors. Her parents, Tripta Wahi, Vijay Singh, were professors at Delhi University. She had completed her schooling from Springdales School in Delhi. After her schooling she moved to St. Stephen’s College, Delhi University to complete her bachelor’s degree.

Those who might be wondering what the Marlena middle name stands for should know that it is a portmanteau of two names Marx and Lennin. Until 2018, she used Marlena as her last name and dropped her surname. However, due to political reasons she dropped her second name Marlena in all party records and campaigns after it was alleged that she was trying to polarize voters. She had dropped her surname from her social media handle as well.

In 2013, Atishi started to associate with the AAP. The deputy chief minister and minister of education, Manish Sisodia, appointed Atishi as an advisor in 2015. Early on in the party’s formation, she had a significant influence on its policies. Atishi was essential in improving the quality of education in the capital’s government-run schools.

She is credited with starting programs like the “Happiness Curriculum” and the “Entrepreneurship Mindset Curriculum.”

Delhi’s New CM Atishi Marlena Singh has no Car, Jewellery or Loan. Here’s how much property she has-

According to the information available on the National Election Watch website (https://www.myneta.info/delhi2020/candidate.php?candidate_id=8811), Atishi has only Rs 20,000 in cash, while she has a deposit of more than Rs 1.41 crore in banks and other financial firms. However, this also includes her husband’s income.

Atishi has two bank FDs worth Rs 39 lakh in her name. She has taken an insurance policy of more than Rs 5 lakh in her name. It is surprising that Atishi has no car, jewellery or any other kind of property. She has never taken a loan from any bank.

Atishi is regarded to be one of the strong women leaders in her party. It has been reported that when AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal and former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia were in prison after being arrested in the Delhi liquor policy case, Atishi boosted the morale of party workers during difficult times.

Earlier in the day, Atishi thanked her “guru” Arvind Kejriwal on being given the “big responsibility” of succeeding him as the Chief Minister of Delhi and said she would work under his “guidance” to protect people’s interests from the BJP’s obstructions.

Atishi is slated to be the third woman Chief Minister of the national capital after Congress’ Sheila Dikshit and BJP’s Sushma Swaraj.

Hours after being unanimously chosen to become the Chief Minister, she said that it was a moment mixed with joy as well as “extreme sadness” as Kejirwal, the popular CM, is going to resign.

Kejriwal proposed Atishi’s name in the legislative party meeting at his residence and was unanimously supported by AAP MLAs.
