Mumbaikars will get a chance to see the Ramayana of Indonesia – Hon’ble Consul of Indonesia Eddy Wardoyo

MUMBAI, 8 NOVEMBER, 2023 (GPN): Diplomatic relations between India and Indonesia will complete 75 years next year. On this occasion, a cultural program including the Indonesian drama’s Ramayana and Mahabharata will be organized in Mumbai.

He informed the Governor that a cultural program incorporating the theatrical presentation of Indonesian Ramayana and Mahabharata will be organized in Mumbai to commemorate the occasion. So, Mumbaikars will get a chance to watch Indonesia’s Ramayana & Mahabharata.

Eddy Wardoyo was speaking at Raj Bhavan Mumbai on Wednesday 8th November for the first time after assuming the charge of the Republic  of Indonesian Consulate in Mumbai in August this year. He met Governor Ramesh Bais for the first time.

In Indonesia, the Ramayana is seen as a cultural relic, the consul said, adding that inter faith artists also take part in Ramayana performances. He said that the Indian culture has a great influence on Indonesia and the names of Ram, Vishnu, Sita etc. are kept even among Muslim religious people.

Eddy Wardoyo said that he has previously worked at the embassy in New Delhi for 4 years and during his tenure as consul, he will focus on increasing social, cultural and trade relations. He had been to India in 1996 as a Consul General.

While thanking Indonesia for supporting India in the successful organization of the G-20 Summit, Governor Shri. Bais highlighted India-Indonesia cultural relations.

The Governor expressed happiness that Indonesia has overtaken Singapore to become India’s largest trading partner among ASEAN countries. Many tourists from India visit Indonesia. The governor expressed the hope that now direct flight services have started between Indonesia and India and the consuls should also promote Indian tourism in Indonesia.

The meeting was attended by Endy K. I. Ginting, Vice Consul for Protocol and Consular Affairs; Eko Santoso Junor – Consul for Socio and Cultural Affairs, Minister Counsellor and Senior Officer Charlie John.Ends
