MUMBAI, 14 OCTOBER, 2023 (GPN): Sarvapitri Amavasya is the Amavasya of Krishna Paksha of Ashwin month. This Amavasya has great significance. However, on every Amavasya, you can remember your ancestors and do charity for their happiness, peace and salvation. But Ashwin Amavasya is the best among all Amavasyas. On this Amavasya day, all Hindus perform Shraddha of their ancestors to get their blessings.

Shraddha also ends on this day. On the day of Amavasya, all the ancestors go back to the world of gods after blessing their children and seeing them living a happy and peaceful life.

Sarvapitri Amavasya will be celebrated this year on 14 October 2023. The time of Ashwin Amavasya is very important for worshiping ancestors. On this day, Shraddha can be performed for all those ancestors whom we know, whose death date is known, or for those whom we do not know and whose date is not even known. The rituals of Shraddha performed on this day are blessed by all the ancestors. Therefore it is called Sarva Pitru Visarjani Amavasya or Mahalaya Amavasya.

When is Sarvapitri Amavasya 2023 ? According to the Vedic calendar, the Amavasya date of Ashwin month will start from 09:50 pm on 13th October and will end on the next day i.e. 14th October at 11:24 pm. According to Udaya Tithi, Sarva Pitru Amavasya will be valid on 14th October. On this day, you can offer Tarpan or Pind Daan to your ancestors at any time.

Kutup Muhurta – 11:44 am to 12:30 pm Rohin Muhurta – 12:30 to 01:16 in the afternoon Afternoon Time – 01:16 PM to 03:35 PM

Sarvpitri Amavasya Vidhi (Procedure) – Purify yourself by taking bath etc. in the morning. – First of all offer Arghya to Sun God. – Make food like puri, kheer, sabzi, etc. – Remember your ancestors and pray to them to accept food. – Invite Brahmins and feed them with respect. – After serving food, give donations, Dakshina, etc. to the Brahmin and seek his blessings. – Feed food to cows, dogs and crows.

Always make Gratitude your Personal Attitude so that you can be able to reach the Altitude of the Supreme Personality who is going fill you with plentiful . Pitru Paksha is a 15 day period which is purely dedicated to all the ancestors or forefathers. People perform Pitru Tarpanand Pind Daan during these days. According to the Hindu Scriptures, it is believed that Pitru comes on earth in these 15 days of period.

As per legend, if a person fails to perform sraddha of their ancestors during these days or in case they are not aware about the death tithi, then they can perform all the tarpan rituals on the day of ‘Sarvapitra Moksha Amavasya’. It is also believed that if their shraddha ritual is not observed during these days, they return unhappily.

Here we talk about the astrological part, if there is a Pitru Dosh in the horoscope, people may go through with bad experiences in life and face malefic effects of that in their lives. So it is advised to perform sraddha ritual and Pind daan on the day of Amavasya so that the deceased soul can attain salvation and do not wander in the search of peace.

Sarva Pitru Amavasya Rituals—

1. People get up early in the morning and get ready.

2. Prepare satvik food to offer priest.

3. Must include sweet in the food (preferably Kheer).

2. Eldest male member of the family perform all the sraddha rituals dedicated to their ancestors.

3. Offer food, clothes, footwear and Dakshina to the brahmin/priest.

4. After offering them food and other things, one must take blessings from the priest by touching their feet.

5. People must feed cows, dogs and crows on this day.

6. It highly auspicious to visit Ganga Ghat on this particular day to take holy dip and pray for their ancestors.

7. Even some people perform shradh rituals near Ganga Ghats which is also favourable for the ancestors.

8. People organise Geeta Paath or Gayatri Paath on this day so that their ancestors can go back to their destination peacefully and happily.

As we all know Amavasya is the last day of Pitru Paksha so people thank their ancestors on this particular day, who have done a lot for their children and in return their children remember them, offer prayers to them and seek apology from their forefathers and pray that their soul can attain salvation and goes to Vaikunth Loka (Celestial Abode of the Lord Krishna.
