MUMBAI, 19th NOVEMBER, 2022 (GPN): JRD Tata Memorial Trust, one of India’s oldest philanthropic organizations, marked the 118th birth anniversary of JRD Tata with a unique celebration, paying tribute to his legacy and remembering his contribution in revolutionizing aviation in India. The special event was attended by Mr. Campbell Wilson, Chief Executive Officer & Managing Director, Air India, who was the Chief Guest and delivered an inspiring keynote address, sharing the roadmap and throwing light on the transformation pillars critical to scale Air India to newer heights and aspirations.
Speaking at an event organized by JRD Tata Memorial Trust to celebrate JRD Tata’s 118th birth anniversary, Mr. Campbell Wilson, Chief Executive Officer & Managing Director, Air India said, “90 years ago last month, Mr. JRD Tata piloted the first flight of the airline that would become Air India. The ensuing years saw it scale remarkable heights, making it perhaps the world’s best airline in no time, during the 1960s. Today, it gives me immense honour to lead the airline that JRD Tata founded and celebrate his legacy, on this momentous occasion. We are currently embarked on an exciting mission to write a new chapter in Air India’s history. The ingredients for success, and the opportunity, are there for India, and Air India, to become major players in world aviation within the next decade. We are committed to seizing this decade and realizing India’s aviation opportunity by the centenary year of JRD Tata’s first flight, which would be the finest possible tribute to his pioneering achievements and lasting legacy.”
The event had in attendance key dignitaries – Bharat Malkani – Max Aerospace, Aloke Sen, CEO – Air India Express, Capt. Cyrus Edekar, ED – Operations Training, Air India and Capt. Pushpinder Singh, Chief Operating Officer – Air India Express. The inaugural session was followed by an awards ceremony, where young talent across the industry was recognized and acknowledged for their outstanding performance, in the last 1 year.
Speaking at the event, Mr. M P Mascarenhas, Chairman, JRD Tata Memorial Trust said, “Today, we mark the 118th birth anniversary of a man, a visionary leader, whose contribution towards India’s industrialization has been second to none and cannot be overlooked. From aviation, engineering & manufacturing to technology, software services and cosmetics, JRD Tata ventured into various sectors to give India the confidence and wherewithal to add value at scale and build the country he envisioned. At JRD Tata Memorial Trust, we are delighted to carry forward this tradition of celebrating and honoring the brightest talents in India’s civil aviation industry.”
The Awards Ceremony, had the Trainee Pilot Award presented to Bombay Flying Club, while the Best Cabin Attendant was awarded to Air India and Air India Express. The winners of the painting competition and elocution contest was won by Air India Modern School. The Awards Ceremony concluded with a vote of thanks by Capt. Russi Bunsha, Executive Trustee – JRD Tata Memorial Trust.
The event concluded by technical session chaired by Mr. Babu Peter, Trustee – JRD Tata Memorial Trust, featuring eminent speakers Mr. D. Anand Bhaskar, CEO and MD – Air Works (Engineering) Pvt. Ltd., Capt. Dhruv Rebapragada, Regional Director Safety – (Airbus) India-South Asia, Capt. Mihir Bhagvati, President & Chief Flight Instructor – Bombay Flying Club and Mr. P Balasubramanian, CEO – AirCargo Consultancy International Services.Ends
