Save Soil drive promotes healthier soil quality worldwide by drawing the support of 3.5 billion people to canvass for soil health. It urges heads of state and their agricultural ministries to formulate national policies and actions towards increasing the organic content in cultivable soil.
Earlier Sadhguru met CM Uddhav Thackeray and Aaditya to present the Soil Policy Handbook. Aaditya signed and exchanged an MoU with Isha Outreach expressing the state’s commitment to the cause while Sadhguru would launch the third edition of the state’s Majhi Vasundhara initiative.
Earlier Sadhguru had launched a solo motorcycle journey through 27 nations on March 21 to promote his ‘SAVE SOIL’ cause. He rode through Europe, Central Asia and the Middle East, arriving in Jamnagar, Gujarat, on May 29. In the Indian Chapter he has traversed Rajasthan, Haryana, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh including visit to different cities in Maharashtra and today in Mumbai. He has covered a distance of 25,000 plus kms so far embarking near completion of the 30000 km motorcycle drive.
Addressing Sunday’s event, he said, “No less than 74 countries have agreed to act in this matter. Over 2.7 billion people have spoken about soil health and 15 lakh children in India have written to PM Modi urging action.” Sadhguru said as against the required organic content of 3%, India’s soil contains just 0.68%. Parts of Europe fare slightly better at 1.4% but no nation appears to measure up to the requisite yardstick. However, he did not favour ‘organic food’, saying farmers were compelled to used fertilisers to increase productivity. He advocated raising organic content in soil instead, and providing incentives to farmers to do so.
Actress Juhi Chawla recalled her visit to the Isha centre as she advocated the merits of Sadhguru’s initiative. Meet Bros, Radhe Jaggi and other artistes performed at the event. Other celebrities spotted were actress Mouni Roy, Singer Shreya Ghoshal to name a few.ENDS
