Ten fanchises teasms including five times champions Mumbai Indians will vie for glory
NAVI MUMBAI, 26 MARCH, 2022 (GPN): The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in consultation with the Governing council of the Indian Premier League (IPL) announced the schedule of the upcoming TATA IPL 2022 scheduled to hold from 26th March to 29th May, 2022.
To be held across four venues including three in Mumbai /Navi Mumbai and one in Pune, the 15th season of the cash rich Twenty20 league will see participation from 10 franchise based teams including debutants Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), and Gujarat Titans (GT) and will witness a total number of 70 league matches and four Playoff games over a duration of 65 days
Defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will take on last edition’s finalist Kolkata Knight Riders. (KKR) in an evening game at the Wankhede stadium in Mumbai in the tournament opener on 26th March. Five times champions Mumbai Indians (MI) will open their campaign against Delhi Capitals in the first of the twelve double-headers scheduled with a Day game at Brabourne stadium in Mumbai. Navi Mumbai based D Y Patil Stadium will witness Punjab Kings (PBKS) take on Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) later in the second match of the double header in an evening game. Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) will square off against Gujarat Titans (GT) at Wankhede on 28 March while Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) stadium in Pune will host its first match of the season between Sunrisers Hyderabad and former champions Rajasthan Royals.
Mumbai Indians which will play four of its league matches including its final league match (penultimate) at Wankhede, while D Y Patil too will host Mumbai Indians four times while Brabourne and MCA thrice each. The final league game will be played at Wankhede on 22nd May 22, with SRH taking on PBKS.
In all, 20 matches each will be held at Wankhede Stadium & DY Patil Stadium, 15 matches each at Brabourne and MCA International stadium, Pune. The first match of each double-header will commence at 3:30PM IST. While all evening matches will commence form 7:30PM IST.
