NATIONAL NEWS:

1. Union Home Minister Amit Shah visited hospitals yesterday to see the brave policemen of Delhi Police who were injured in the violence during the tractor rally on Republic Day on 26 January.
2. Rajasthan has become the 5th state in the country to successfully complete the Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) reforms. This was specified by the Department of Expenditure, Ministry of Finance.
3. The Union Cabinet has cleared the policy on the privatization of public sector undertakings (PSUs) . The details regarding the policy will be announced in the upcoming Union Budget that will be presented on February 1, 2021.
4. The policy will present a road map for the presence of government-owned entities in strategic and non-strategic sectors. This policy was the part of the Aatmanirbhar Bharat package that was announced by the Finance Minister in May 2020.
5. Delhi Police has formed 9 teams to crack down on those responsible for the violence on Republic Day. As per sources, officers of the level of ACP will lead each of the 9 teams to nab the vandals. They would also be given half a company of paramilitary under their command to search down these rioters.
6. So far, 200 people have been arrested by the Delhi Police while the Haryana Police has booked nearly 2,000 unidentified protesters for trying to break barricades in Haryana’s Palwal district to forcibly enter Delhi during the tractor parade, driving dangerously, among other charges. A total of 37 farm leaders and rioters have been charged under Sections 147, 148, 149, 152, 186, 188, 269, 353, 332, 307, 395, 397, 120B and 34 of the Indian Penal Code and Section 3 of the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act.
7. 4th Kisan Union withdraws from protests against Farm Laws following violence on Republic-Day : Joining the 3 unions who withdrew from the ongoing agitation, the Kisan Mahapanchayat announced its exit from the protests following the violent rally on R-Day.
8. ‘Kejriwal wanted Delhi to burn’: BJP MP Gautam Gambhir tears into Delhi CM’s silence on rioters :
   the AAP chief had not even condemned the mob responsible for violence on R-Day.
9. The Supreme Court, which on Thursday completed 71 years of its functioning, The top court, which had held its inaugural sitting on January 28, 1950.
10. Jharkhand chief minister and JMM working president Hemant Soren on Thursday held a rally here in poll-bound West Bengal’s Jhargram district , demanding establishment of an autonomous council for the tribal-dominated Western part of the state.
11. Congress Says Poll Deal Finalised With Left Front On 193 Seats In Bengal Of the 193 seats the Left Front will contest in 101 and Congress in 92 seats in Bengal assembly elections. The 193 seats include the 77 seats they had won in the last Assembly poll in 2016.
12. The violence at Delhi’s Red Fort by protesting farmers during a tractor rally on Republic Day caused much damage to the 400-year-old monument , a union minister said today.
13. Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Somnath Bharti will remain the MLA from Delhi’s Malviya Nagar constituency for now as a local court yesterday suspended his sentence in an assault case.
    A court last week sentenced Mr Bharti to two years in jail for assaulting AIIMS security staff in 2016.
14. Newly inducted BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari has donated Rs 2.4 lakh for the construction of Ram temple in Ayodhya.
15. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday stated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah “must resign”. CM Mamata Banerjee said that they should “either repeal farm laws or quit the government”. CM Banerjee added that the person who hoisted the flag at the Red Fort is “BJP ka chamcha”.
16. PM Modi praised the National Cadet Corps (NCC) cadets for helping the centre and state government amid the COVID-19 pandemic . “Be it the floods or any other calamity, the NCC cadets helped the people of this country last year. During the coronavorus pandemic, lakhs of cadets worked with the administration and society across the country. Their work is commendable,” he said.
17. Akali Dal, AAP, 16 Congress-led parties to boycott President’s address today, seek farm law repeal: The Budget Session of Parliament today is off to a stormy start with a larger opposition on Thursday deciding to boycott President Ram Nath Kovind’s address to the joint session in support of farmers’ demand for repeal of agriculture reform laws.
18. Haryana Extends Suspension Of Mobile Internet Services In 3 Districts Till Friday Mobile internet services were suspended in these districts on Tuesday after a violent farmers’ protest rocked the neighbouring Delhi.

Bollywood actor Anupam Kher on Thursday took to his social media handle to launch a life-altering initiative called ‘AntarAKt’ — an initiative that follows a multi-dimensional approach, to help participants discover their ‘best’ version. In a 2-minute video, Kher explained his idea behind ‘AntarAKt’ and spoke about ‘Are You Fine’ challenge.
20. CBSE board exams scheduled for Class 10 and Class 12 will be announced on February 2 , said Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ said .
21. Karnataka state has released a notification for Karnataka Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) exam dates and guidelines for them. According to the notification, Karnataka Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) exam will start from June 14 till June 25.
22. Lieutenant General Chandi Prasad Mohanty on February 1, 2021, will take over as the next vice-chief of Army Staff. Currently, he is the Southern Army Commander and will be succeeding Lt General SK Saini.
23. Field Marshall KM Cariappa 122nd Birth Anniversary: Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to Field Marshal KM Cariappa, the first Indian Commander-in-Chief of the Army, on his birth anniversary. He was addressing the National Cadet Corps (NCC) Rally at Cariappa Ground in Delhi on Thursday.

1. The Indo-French Year of the Environment was launched on 28th January 2021 by Prakash Javadekar, Minister of Environment, Forest & Climate Change and Barbara Pompili, the French Minister for Ecological Transition at Indira Paryavaran Bhawan, New Delhi.
2. PM Modi spoke on the telephone with Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi & Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces . The two leaders discussed the impact of the COVID pandemic in the region and expressed satisfaction that cooperation between India and UAE had not halted even during the health crisis.
3. United Nations have released its report titled ‘Ageing water infrastructure: An emerging global risk’ on the ageing of the dams in India. The report was compiled by compiled by United Nations University’s Canadian-based Institute for Water, Environment and Health. The analysis was done on the dam decommissioning or ageing from the USA, Canada, France, Japan, India, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
4. India has signed a Framework for strategic partnership agreement with the International Energy Agency (IEA), recently. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) seeks to strengthen the cooperation in global energy security, stability and sustainability.
   It will also help in extensive exchange of knowledge between the two.

6. Boeing has received a licence from the US government to offer its F-15EX fighter jet to the Indian Air Force (IAF) Boeing will compete with Sweden’s Gripen and France’s Rafale among others for the Indian Air Force’s plan to buy 114 multi-role aircraft to replace its Soviet-era fleet.
7. PM Modi addressed World Economic Forum’s Davos dialogue . Highlighting India’s fight against the coronavirus, he said the country, which has the world’s 18 percent population, saved the world from a disaster by bringing the coronavirus situation under control. He also spoke on India’s economic growth trajectory amid the pandemic.
8. The ban on international flight operations has been extended till February 28, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) informed on Thursday.
9. India continues to provide COVID-19 vaccines to its neighbouring countries and other nations that have reached out for assistance in these trying times. Presently, India dispatched COVID-19 vaccines to Bahrain and Sri Lanka.

1. Myanmar has started COVID-19 vaccination programme with health workers from hospitals and employees of the Department of Health receiving the Oxford University-AstraZeneca vaccine made by the Serum Institute of India.
2. Foreign Minister of Bangladesh Dr. A K Abdul Momen has said that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina attaches high importance to the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) forum as a tool of regional movement.
3. Dr Momen stressed upon the implementation of the BIMSTEC Master plan for Transport Connectivity for the benefit of the region. He said that connectivity could play a vital role in accelerating the pace of economic development of the BIMSTEC region.
4. The United Kingdom has launched a New Global Platform to track the new COVID-19 variants . The platform will provide world-leading genomics expertise from the country to identify the new variants of the virus.
5. The most active volcano of Indonesia, Mt Merapi, (situated at a subduction zone of the Indo-Australian Plate and Sunda Plate) recently erupted with a river of lava and searing gas clouds . The lave and clouds flown for 1,600 meters down its slopes. The last major eruption of the Merapi was in 2010 that had killed 347 people. It is considered as the most active volcano in Indonesia and is erupted regularly since 1548.
6. China will donate three lakh COVID-19 vaccine doses to Sri Lanka, stepping up its vaccine diplomacy in South Asia

Facts about India
