Mumbai, 22 December, 2020 (GPN): The ephemeral movements of a cranefly, a Crimson Sunbird bathing in the bowl-like petal of a banana flower, the fraction of a second before a leopard captured its Malabar giant squirrel prey, and a bat framed by the leafy branches of a tree before darting into the darkness, were the images that caught the eyes of our jury this year as they chose the winners of the Sanctuary Wildlife Photography Awards 2020.
On December 19, 2020, the Sanctuary Nature Foundation, supported by DSP Investment Managers Pvt. Ltd., IndusInd Bank and Greenko, in partnership with Delhibird Foundation, presented the awards online at a virtual ceremony held over the video conferencing software Zoom at 7.00 p.m. (IST). This year, the audience attending the live event was given the opportunity to vote for the Sanctuary People’s Choice Wildlife Photography Award as well.
Sanctuary promotes photography as a tool to boost or advocate the conservation morale. We believe that powerful, evocative images have the power to draw out supportive human responses. The Sanctuary Wildlife Photography Awards were instituted two decades ago to recognise and honour those who bring wild nature into our lives, through images that have changed human thoughts, ambitions and even national policies.
