NATIONAL NEWS:

1. A delegation of farmers from Uttarakhand met Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar in New Delhi and extended their support to the newly enacted three farm laws .
2. Social activist Anna Hazare on Monday wrote to Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar warning “resumption of a hunger strike” against the Centre’s “failure” to fulfil his demands including the implementation of the recommendations made by M S Swaminathan Commission.
3. Hazare observed a fast on December 8 in support of the Bharat Bandh called by farmer organisations demanding a repeal of the Centre’s three agri laws. He had warned of an agitation if the government fails to grant autonomy to the CACP and implement recommendations of the Swaminathan Commission.
4. What is that Commission?
   The MS Swaminathan Commission, constituted in 2004, had submitted five reports, with recommendations on alleviating distress of farmers and provided a framework for a sustainable and profitable agricultural system. The Swaminathan Commission had recognised the problem of cartelisation among traders in a particular Agricultural Produce & Livestock Market Committee (APMC) and thus recommended the establishment of One Nation-One Market. The report vouched for “development of domestic and international markets for local produce, and move towards a Single Indian Market.”
5. Union Minister Smriti Irani on Monday slammed the Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) over their ‘hypocrisy’ over the Farm Laws remarking that their ‘dual nature’ stood exposed in front of the country. She Launched an attack on Kejriwal and Amarinder Singh over their protests against the Farm Laws, Smriti Irani said that she was ‘aghast’ over their ‘dual speak’.
6. PM Modi will undertake a visit to Dhordo in Kutch, Gujarat on 15th December, 2020 and lay the Foundation Stone of several development projects in the State . These projects include a desalination plant, a hybrid renewable energy park, and a fully automated milk processing and packing plant. Chief Minister of Gujarat will be present on the occasion.
7. The Lok Sabha Speaker Shri Om Birla released a book on the occasion of the 19th anniversary of the attack on Indian Parliament. The title of English version of the book was “The Shaurya Unbound” and the hindi version was “Samundar Samave Boond Mein”.
8. The Bharti infratel has received approval from the the register of companies to change its name to Indus Towers.
9. The Himachal Pradesh Government on Monday decided to continue with night curfew in four Covid-hit districts and also maintain restrictions on all social gatherings till January 5. The night curfew will continue from 9 pm to 6 am till January 5 in the four districts of Shimla, Mandi, Kangra and Kullu.
10. All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) set off on an indefinite strike Monday onwards over redressal of their demands. The AIIMS Nurses Union has mainly demanded the implementation of the 6th Central Pay Commission which will ensure better remuneration. In the letter signed by the Union’s President, the nurses have highlighted that the 6th Pay Commission was agreed upon by the Health Ministry in October 2019.
11. After the BJP managed to get a clear mandate in the Goa Zilla panchayat polls, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant thanked the people for their trust in the BJP, asking them to join the party in shaping a glorious ‘Swayampurna’ or a ‘self-reliant’ Goa in the coming times. With the counting still underway, the BJP has managed to win 14 seats in the local body polls , while the Congress has won 2, and the MGP and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) have bagged 1 seat each.
12. Militants opened fire at the residence of a PDP leader in the Natipora area of the city on Monday, killing his personal security officer . Parvaiz Bhat, the militant-turned-PDP leader, escaped the attack unhurt.
13. Himachal Pradesh Governor Bandaru Dattatreya on Monday had a narrow escape when his car met with an accident while he was on his way to Nalgonda from Hyderabad for a programme.
14. Madhya Pradesh government is going to reopen schools for class 10 and 12 from December 18 while colleges will be reopened from January 1,
15. The Ramanujan Prize for Mathematicians for the year 2020 was presented to Dr Carolina Arajuo. She is a mathematician from the Institute for Pure and Applied Mathematics, Rio de Janerio. She is the first non-Indian women mathematician to receive the prize. She has specialised in birational geometry, algebraic geometry, Fano varieties and foliations. Also, she is the Vice President at the International Mathematical Union.
16. Bollywood dance master Remo D’souza , who is recovering from a heart attack , is dancing with his ‘feet’ in the hospital room. Wife Lizelle took to her Instagram handle to share a heartwarming video of Remo trying to move his feet on a peppy song.
17. Kangana Ranaut on Monday took to her social media handle to share that her grandfather Braham Chand Ranaut, 90-years old, breathed his last on Monday. Revealing the reason behind his death, Kangana said that he wasn’t keeping well since past few months.

Late actor Om Prakash Puri (18 October 1950 – 6 January 2017) last film whose title changed from Rambhajjan Zindabad to a new title Omprakash Zindabad as a tribute to the late actor is set for release on December 18 in theatres under Panorama Studios. It is produced by Khalid Kidwai and directed by Ranjeet Gupta.

21. Following in the footsteps of the Japanese and South Korean navies, the Indian Navy has issued a RFI seeking details of Li-ion batteries. 1. Bangladesh Foreign Minister Dr. A K Abdul Momen has said that the ‘Swadhinata Sarak’ between Bangladesh and India will be opened on 26 March next year . He said the road remains functional on the Indian side while it will be connected through Mujibnagar, Meherpur district in Bangladesh.
2. The fifth India-Myanmar Bilateral Meeting on Drug Control Operation was recently held. During the meet, the Narcotics Control Bureau of India and the Central Committee on Drug Abuse Control of Myanmar agreed to exchange timely information to conduct follow up investigation on new psychotropic substances, drug seizures.
3. Mizoram has emerged as one of the major drug trafficking routes from Myanmar. Synthetic drugs and Yaba tablets are being smuggled into the North East from Myanmar. This is mainly because the Golden Triangle region where the border of Thailand, Myanmar and Laos meet has switched its production of meth into a more lucrative trade than heroin. The meth is called “Yaba” in Thailand and “baba” in Bangladesh.
4. The International Bank for reconstruction and development recently uploaded India for its efforts towards river rejuvenation and cleanliness projects.
5. India to tap ‘Lithium Triangle’ for Lithium-ION batteries onboard Indian Navy subs . While India and Bolivia are in talks about having a joint manufacturing base for the batteries, both Chile and Argentina are in talks about exploration and exports of Lithium.
6. China wants India to accept the new normal on LAC, move on to restore bilateral ties
   This month, External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar has made repeated public statements stating that the only way for restoring frozen India-China ties is to untangle the four friction points in East Ladakh.
7. Nepalese nationals are now allowed to travel on special international flights that are being operated under India-Nepal air bubble arrangements . Note that air bubble arrangements have been established between India and 11 other countries.
8. Pakistan has once again poked its nose in the internal affairs of India, this time with its Federal Minister for Science and Technology Government of Pakistan Fawad Chaudhry trying to exploit the farmers’ protests in India over the agricultural laws.

1. Bangladesh is observing the Martyred Intellectuals Day President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina paid tribute to the martyred intellectuals on Monday. It was to mark the day of brutality when Pakistani forces killed hundreds of intellectuals including teachers, doctors, journalists and others in Dhaka and other parts of Bangladesh in 1971.
2. On 14 December 1971, just two days before Bangladesh got liberation, the Pakistani occupation forces with the help of their local collaborators named Razakar, Al-Badr and Al-Shams, went on a torture and killing spree of the most prominent intellectuals of the country . The horror of the torture and killing came to light after Bangladesh attained independence on 16 December 1971.
3. China and Pakistan recently held Shaheen joint Air Force exercises. : The air forces of Pakistan and China commenced a joint exercise designed to deepen practical cooperation and improve the actual-combat training level of the two sides. It is the series of exercise conducted every year. First started in 2011.
4. The UNESCO has decided to launch an international prize in the field of ‘creative economy’ in the name of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman . Starting November 2021, the dollar 50 thousand award will be given away once in two years for global economic initiatives of the youth.

6. The biggest vaccination drive in American history got underway on Monday with a critical care nurse in New York becoming the first person in the US to be vaccinated for COVID-19, providing a glimmer of hope as the country nears the grim milestone of nearly 300,000 coronavirus deaths.
