🤔 HOW IT WORKS ⁉
What is the logical explanation behind the Hindu ritual of Karva Chauth
Karwachauth fast is linked the effect is seen on the health & fertility of married women.
The moon has got an effect on the human body just like it has on oceans. Apart from our mental health/ mood it also affects our sleep pattern and hunger. Do you know we tend to feel more hungry as the full moon approaches? And this hunger slowly subsides as the moon starts waning.
Fasting helps in breaking down the stored fat in producing energy. It eliminates toxins from our organs thereby aiding in body cleansing.
Ovulation takes place 14 days after menstruation. Early fertilization of egg post ovulation increases the chances of fertilization and transforming into a zygote. As reproductive health gets hampered due to monsoon, karwachauth presents a green signal to start progeny. It regularizes reproductive strength, increases fertility/ sexual energy, and delays menopause. Delayed menopause indirectly presents an active life for couples.
Starvation protects germline cells leading to extended reproductive longevity. It helps to regularize the fertility cycle. An irregular fertility cycle leads to early menopause.
A healthy reproductive system implies the potential for increased sexual energy and activity by women during a lifetime. High sexual energy indirectly corresponds to men’s health that can increase their life expectancy.
Moreover, with television and cinema, karwachauth has become a commercialized festival where women are shown dolled up and performing fasts without knowing the actual reasoning.
It is believed, that during these months, the moon is more powerful and emits good digestive power due to which even the shortest meals taken during the day become more nourishing & strengthening.

Karwa Chauth
According to Sanatan dharma, It is considered to be a romantic festival, symbolizing the love between a husband and wife. It is a 1-day festival celebrated by Hindu women from North India four days after purnima (a full moon) in the month of Kartika. … On Karwa Chauth, the married women, especially in Northern India, fast from sunrise to moonrise for the safety and longevity of their husbands. Married women begin their fast from sunrise and stays without consuming food and water until moon rise. They wives start fasting after having eating ‘Sargahi’ a pre-dawn meal earlier the beginning of fasting.
Fasting helps bring harmony inside the body, detoxify and balance the body.As we know from June the earth begins its downward journey. This reduces the sunlight in the northern hemisphere. Besides, monsoon leads to the cooling of the earth. The cooling of the earth leads to the slowing of the digestive system. This leads to an increase in Kapha and Vata dosha. Besides the equinox is a time when rain has bid adieu and people can once again begin eating delicious meals. Fasting in a way helps to build the reproductive system of women thereby increasing their childbearing capacity. This is one reason why it is recommended to keep Ekadashi fast. It helps in regulating our body from dehydration whereas one feels maximum hungry during full moon night.
The meaning of Karwa Chauth is offering Argya to the moon using an earthen pot known as Karwa on the Chaturthi of the Karthika month.
Fasting during the day helps in establishing self-control and focus. It is considered to be the perfect way of self-restraint and realization also. Fasting cures the disease of the body and it pures the digest system also. It also corrects you at the every aspect of life and it makes self-discipline and dedication. It is a kind of training given to the body and mind to withstand all hardships and make you strong enough to persist under extreme difficulties. Fasting for a limited duration (~12 hours) has scientifically proven to have positive results on both adult men and women.
Karwa Chauth Vrat Katha
Long time ago, a man named Vedsharma and his wife Leelavati lived a happy life with seven sons and a daughter named Veeravati. The daughter was the family’s favourite. After her marriage, when Veeravati observed her first Karwa Chauth, she had to face a lot hardship. She was unable to stay without food and water and fainted. After seeing her condition, the brothers decided to trick their sister into breaking the fast.
One of the brothers climbed a tree with a lamp. When Veeravati gained the consciousness, the other brothers told her that the moon had risen and brought her on the terrace to see the moon, so that she could break her fast.
Seeing the lamp, she believed that the moon had really risen behind the tree and Veervati broke her fast. According to popular belief, after her third morsel of food, she was called by her in-laws and told that husband had died. While she cried inconsolably, Goddess Indrani appeared and told her that she had broken the fast without giving argha or offering to the moon and that is why her husband died. The goddess also said that if she keeps chauth vrat every month, her husband would be back. When Veervati followed the rituals, as suggested by the goddess, with devotion her husband woke up.
