IMG-20200830-WA0065Hyderabad, August 30th, 2020, (GPN): A team of experts at the Medicover Hospitals, one of the fastest growing healthcare providers in South India, have identified and surgically treated a rare health complication that got developed due to Covid-19, to save the life of a 17-year-old boy. This is first-of-its-kind surgical procedure performed to remove the puss formed around the left lung of the COVID victim.

In the first week of this month, Mr. Prem Kumar, a native of Ranga Reddy district of Telangana State, was brought to Medicover Hospitals on complaining of acute chest pain. The patient was suffering for two weeks, and earlier was treated at a local hospital; but the condition aggravated with time. And on arrival at Medicover Hospitals, the patient was tested for Covid-19, and he was found a positive carrier of coronavirus.

Commenting on the ailment and the procedure done, Dr. Pramod Reddy, Consultant Cardio-Thoracic surgeon, Medicover Hospitals said, “When an individual contracts coronavirus, his/her respiratory system is compromised; and even in this case, we presume that the victim, who was Covid-19 positive , suffered further complications arising due to bacterial infection. The puss formed around the left lung, making the patient feel breathlessness and pain in the chest, necessitated decortication.”

“Post decortication, the patient was treated using antiviral for Covid-19, and anti-bacterial drugs for the puss. Subsequently, the patient developed antibodies for coronavirus; and once the infected lung got restored to its normalcy, the patient was discharged to lead his regular daily routine. Culture study on the puss was also performed to assess the nature of bacteria, which turned out to be a regular form of Staphylococcus bacteria,” added Dr. Pramod.

Medicover Hospitals has the technological and knowledge expertise to ascertain and treat most complex health conditions. With over 2500 beds and treating over 2 million patients, Medicover Hospitals is the most robust healthcare provider across Telugu States of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. ENDS
