IMG-20200727-WA0005MUMBAI, 26 JULY, 2020 (GPN): The havoc of Corona, which has been continuously growing for many days, has become a big problem for the people. According to the latest figures of the Union Health Ministry, the total cases of coronavirus infection in the country have exceeded 13 lakh 36 thousand and the number of deaths has increased to 31,358. After the exemption in lockdown, about 11.4 lakh cases have been reported in June-July itself.

In Nagpur city of Maharashtra, the corporation officials have announced the implementation of Janata curfew on Saturday and Sunday. In the meantime, only important supplies have been allowed. So far, more than 3.5 lakh cases of infection have been seen in the state. Where CM Uddhav Thackeray said on Saturday that he is not in favor of removing restrictions due to Corona infection solely to address economic concerns. He wants Lock down in Maharashtra till 5th August.

From June onwards, the government had started lifting the restrictions in phase-wise manner under its ‘Mission Begin Again’ initiative.

“This pandemic is a global war. It has affected the entire world. Those countries which had lifted the lockdown in haste thinking that it was over, were again forced to impose it to curb the spread. In Australia, they had to rope in Army,” he said.

“Many people are opposing lockdown. They say that lockdown is affecting the economy. To such people, I would say that I am ready to lift the lockdown, but if people die due to it, would you take the responsibility?…Even we are concerned about the economy,” he said.

On the restarting of the suburban railway network in Mumbai, he said, “What if families fall ill and their houses are sealed? Therefore, everything would be done step-by-step.”

Speaking about his government which has completed six months in office, Thackeray said that he was leading a three-party alliance government supported by some independents.

“This is not just Thackeray sarkar, but everybody’s sarkar, especially that of the citizens of the state, who have accepted this experiment,” he added.

He said this in an interview given to the mouthpiece of Shiv Sena. The Chief Minister also explains why Maharashtra, despite wanting exams, cannot hold them at this stage of the coronavirus crisis. His son, also the state’s tourism, environment and protocol minister Aaditya Thackeray has challenged the decision in the Supreme Court to hold final year College Exams .

Aaditya Thackeray had tweeted on Saturday, “Today Yuva Sena has filed a writ petition in the Supreme Court with a humble prayer to save lives of lakhs of students, teachers, non-teaching staff and their families by asking the UGC to not be stubborn about enforcing examinations when India has crossed the 10 lakh cases mark.”

A complete lockdown has been issued in Nagaland’s capital Kohima till 31 July. Lockdown will continue in Dimapur from Sunday to August 2. The Meghalaya government has announced to implement a complete lockdown in Shillong between 26 to 29 July.

In Chhattisgarh on Wednesday, in addition to Raipur and Birgaon, 20 other urban bodies are going to have a 7-day lockdown in the corporation boundary. Amid lockdown, orders have been ordered to stop flights at Kolkata Airport in West Bengal. Many types of restrictions will remain in the state. In Karnataka, the lockdown has been implemented on Sunday this month. The one-week lockdown in Bangalore came to an end on July 22. Odisha government has issued a lockdown order for 14 days from July 17 in Ganjam, Khurda, Cuttack, Jajpur and Rourkela districts. So far 22,693 cases of virus have been reported in Odisha, 16,782 in Jammu and Kashmir, 16995 in Kerala and 12,216 in Punjab. After the arrival of 180 new cases of Coronavirus infection in Gujarat, the total number of infected people has increased to 25,529. ENDS
