NEW DELHI, 29^th JUNE, 2020 (GPN): The patient Mr. Rajesh Sharma (name changed) aged 92, was admitted to the hospital with severe pain and swelling in his right groin and vomiting. An immediate CAT scan of the patient at Medeor Hospital confirmed the diagnosis of right inguinal hernia which had further complications due to blocked content in his intestine which was getting choked due to Hernia.

Medeor Hospital in Qutab Institutional Area, amidst challenging times of Covid-19 Pandemic  not only successfully performed a challenging Hernia surgery on a critically ill and  diabetic patient but also ensured that he remain safe from coronavirus during his time in hospital.

Explaining the condition of the patient, Dr Vinay Shaw, Senior Consultant and Head-Department of GI, Laparoscopy and Bariatric Surgery, Medeor Hospital, Delhi commented, “After examining the patient’s condition and considering he had diabetes & diagnosed with strangulated Right Inguinal Hernia, immediate medical aid needed to be delivered to the patient. Due to the present environment of Covid-19 pandemic the biggest threat to the patient was from the Covid virus which could further complicate the situation. Adding to it, we were worried about his immunity level considering the age factor, diabetic nature and chest problems with recent history of admission in ICU. All these issues made a Inguinal Hernia surgery (which is one of the most common general surgical procedure) look extremely complicated.”

He further added, “Our medical staff took utmost care and all possible measures to ensure the patient’s safety. The timely and well planned surgery ensured the safety of the 92 years old gentleman whose family was happy to take him back home; a couple of days after surgery.”
