~ This initiatives helped conduct 1354 Gynaecological consultations, 456 Mammography’s & 673 iBreast screenings ~

MULUND, 8th JANUARY, 2020 (GPN): Fortis Hospital, Mulund concluded its two month-long ‘Mammography Bus’ initiative. The concluding event was hosted in association with Thane Police, where 600 female officers underwent Breast Cancer screening under this initiative. Shri Rajan Vichare, Member of Parliament, Thane and Mr. Vivek Phansalkar, Commissioner of Police, Thane District, joined-in to support this event. 

Image 4Fortis Hospital, Mulund’s ‘Mammography Bus’ initiative was launched as an extension of the Breast Cancer Awareness Month celebrations in October 2019. The initiative, which was hosted at the hospital as well as across Mumbai & Navi Mumbai, also drew support from Indian Cancer Society. The Mammography Bus covered eighteen locations across Mumbai and Navi Mumbai including Thane, Mulund, Bhandup, Vikhroli, Santacruz, Kandivali, Bhayendar, Goregaon, Kamothe and Airoli. 

Spearheaded by Dr Anil Heroor, Sr. Consultant, Surgical Oncology, Dr Boman Dhabar, Sr. Consultant, Medical Oncology & HematoOncology and Dr Uma Dangi, Consultant, Medical Oncology along with support from Dr Sonali Manyar, Sr. Consultant, Radiology, the Mammography Bus initiative comprised of awareness talks, followed by physical examinations and mammography screenings. Amongst those who participated, 1354 women underwent Gynecological consultations, 673 underwent iBreast screening (handheld, radiation free exam,) and 456 women underwent mammography examination. 

Speaking about the initiative, Dr S. Narayani, Zonal Director, Fortis Hospital, Mulund, said, “Taking forth our propose of saving and enriching lives, we conceptualized and launched the Mammography Bus initiative. It was aimed at making women aware of the importance of early detection, which is key to survival in Breast Cancer cases. Through engaging talks and awareness camps, we have taken a progressive step towards empowering women with appropriate knowledge about screening, prevention and treatment strategies”.
