* Ajit Pawar wins Baramati with a margin of 1.62 Lakh votes, one of the highest margins in the Maharashtra assembly elections. This is his sixth consecutive victory from the seat.

* BJP’s Manisha Chaudhary has been declared a winner from Dahisar constituency. She was contesting the election against Congress leader Arun Vasant Sawant.

* BJP leader and Maharashtra minister Pankaja Munde on Thursday accepted her defeat from Parli assembly seat at the hands of her cousin and NCP leader Dhananjay Munde. Pankaja Gopinathrao Munde lost to NCP’s Dhananjay Panditrao Munde from Parli by 30,000 votes.

* NCP, the Congress and other allies will decide the future course of action. We will not go with Shiv Sena, says NCP chief Sharad Pawar.

* NCP president Sharad Pawar on Thursday said the opposition has worked hard and all members of Congress-NCP and allies have delivered and given their best. “I thank them all. Power comes, power goes but it is important to remain committed to a cause and we thank people for the love they showed,” he added.

* In close fight, BJP candidate Kumar Ailani wins from Ulhasnagar seat defeating NCP’s Jyoti Kalani.

* Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut on Thursday said his party and the BJP will form the next government in Maharashtra, and stressed the two parties will stick to the pre-decided “50-50” sharing formula.

images (6)* Exit polls had predicted that the BJP-Shiv Sena alliance will retain power comfortably. The polling held on Monday saw a voter turnout of 61.13 per cent, a dip from the 63.20 per cent recorded in 2014. The ruling BJP-Shiv Sena combine is arrayed against the opposition Congress-NCP with the Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi being the dominant player among the other parties.

HARYANA :

* Addressing party workers in Delhi, PM Modi described BJP’s performance in Haryana as “unprecedented”. “I also want to thank the people of the country for this gift. I hope Diwali brings new light and energy into your lives,” said the PM.

* Haryana CM Manohar LAL Khattar retained his Karnal seat by defeating Congress rival Tarlochan Singh with a margin of 45,188 votes. He thanked the people of Haryana for voting BJP and said that the work of creating a strong and prosperous Haryana will be carried forward continuously, following the motto of ‘sabka saath sabka vikas’.

* The ‘NOTA’ option has secured second slot in the Latur Rural Assembly segment. Dhiraj Deshmukh, the Congress candidate won the seat securing 1,35,006 votes (67.64 per cent). The ‘None of the Above’ (NOTA) clinched 27,500 votes (13.78 per cent) and stood second. Shiv Sena candidate Sachin Deshmukh, Dhiraj Deshmukh’s main rival, stood third, garnering 13,459 votes (6.78 per cent).

* The international wrestlers fielded by the ruling BJP, Babita Phogat and Yogeshwar Dutt, and TikTok star Sonali Phogat had to bite the dust in the Haryana elections on Thursday. The saving grace for the BJP was the win of former hockey captain Sandeep Singh, who was also fielded by the saffron party. All the four joined the ruling party weeks before the polls Oct 21 polls.

* Babita, fielded from Dadri in the Charkhi Dadri assembly segment, was nowhere in the contest. From the segment, Sombir, an Independent candidate defeated Jannayak Janata Party’s Satpal Sangwan by a margin of 14,272 votes.

* TikTok star Sonali Phogat had to face heavy defeat at the hands of sitting legislator and senior Congress leader Kuldeep Bishnoi from Adampur, who thrashed her by a margin of 29,471 votes.

* However, Sandeep Singh won from Pehowa in Kurukshetra defeating Congress’ Mandeep Singh Chhattha by a margin of 5,314 votes.

* Despite scoring on 40 seats, BJP lost all its ministers, except two, including Anil Vij, and party chief Subhash Barala.

* BJP’s outgoing Ministers Captain Abhimanyu, O.P. Dhankar, Ram Bilas Sharma, Kavita Jain, Krishan Lal Panwar, Manish Grover, Krishan Kumar Bedi ended up with humiliating defeats.

* Haryana health minister Anil Vij won from his stronghold Ambala Cantonment seat defeating his nearest rival Chitra Sarwara, an Independent candidate. Vij, a senior BJP leader and five-time MLA from the constituency, defeated Sarwara by a margin of 20,165 votes.

* President of BJP’s Haryana unit Subhash Barala won by a margin of 6,000 votes from Tohana constituency defeating JJP’s Devender Singh Babli. Barala on Thursday denied reports of his resignation from the party post, saying it is a rumour.

* Two-time Chief Minister and Congress leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda retained his bastion of Garhi Sampla-Kiloi in the Rohtak district.

* Congress national spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala, who lost by nearly 1,200 votes to BJP’s Leela Ram, conceded defeat from Kaithal. Surjewala, a two-time MLA, was seeking his third term from Kaithal, once a known stronghold of the Surjewala family.

* Haryana finance minister Capt Abhimanyu lost to JJP’s Ram Kumar Gautam, who is a former BJP MLA, by a margin of 12,000 votes in Narnaund constituency in Hisar district.

*JJP’s Amarjeet Dhanda won the Julana seat by defeating the ruling BJP’s Parminder Singh Dhull by a margin of 24,193 votes. Haryana minister Krishan Kumar Bedi lost to JJP rival Ram Karan from the Shahbad reserved constituency on Thursday. Bedi lost by a margin of 37,127 votes to the JJP candidate.

* Chander Mohan, former deputy chief minister of Haryana, is trailing behind BJP’s Gian Chand Gupta who is leading by a margin of 44,000 votes in Panchkula constituency.

* Haryana on Monday recorded a voter turnout of over 68 per cent, a sharp decline from 76.54 in the 2014 assembly polls. Of the total voters, 69.36 percent were men and 67.12 per cent women.

* Earlier in the day, senior Congress leader and former Haryana CM Bhupinder Singh Hooda called on the rival parties of BJP to come together to form a strong coalition government in the state. Asserting that the mandate by the people of Haryana has been against the incumbent BJP government, Hooda said, “The time has come for Congress, JJP, INLD, and independents to come together to form a strong government. I assure that each of them will be respected and given a respectable position.” ENDS
