Shander wins 10K INTENCITY Mumbai Run, Shander is followed by Shailesh and Pravin; Shital tops women’s field

MUMBAI, 24 December,2017 (GPN): Taxman Shander Singh sailed through the Mumbai 10K INTENCITY Run with flying colours before been chased till the end by Shailesh Gangoda in a photo-finish in the 10km Elite category run held at the picturesque Bandra Fort today morning.

Shander Singh clocked 32.42 minutes to the finish line leaving Shailesh Gangoda a mere five seconds behind who was followed by Pravin Khambal. The woman’s category also witnessed impressive timings with Shital Bhagat (38.46mins) scoring a win followed by Rajashri Tarihal (40.17mins) and Aarti Deshmukh (40.47 mins).
The early morning pleasant weather witnessed a sea of green who took to the roads leaving a profound impression on the runners as they traversed through the Bandstand and Carter Road precinct with élan. The event was flagged off by Edward Sequeira, Arjuna Awardee & Olympian, Satish Utcchil, AFI Technical Delegate & Secretary, Mumbai City Athletic Association, Dr. Anand Patil, Ultra marathoner and 13-time Iron man athlete and Anand Menezes, Olympian, Founder & Director, Andy Event Management.

In the veteran’s men, Nanda Shetty who has participated in his 260th athletic event crossed the finish line first with timings of 38 minutes 38 seconds followed by Ashutosh Rai and Arindam Das.

The event was boosted with the support of Mr. Vinod Tawde, Sports & Education Minister, Mr. Ashish Shelar, MLA along with Mr. Adille Sumariwalla – Olympian and President AFI, and Mr. Homiyar Mistry – Chhatrapati Awardee & Olympian who endorsed the 10K INTENCITY Run which supported the cause of Green, Healthy India.

The 10K INTENCITY run is recognized by the Athletics Federation of India, which covers 10 different cities and has already completed successful runs in the first 4 legs i.e Pune, Indore, Hyderabad and Bangalore and after Mumbai, the 10K INTENCITY run will move south to Chennai to be held on January 21, 2018.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Anand Menezes, Olympian, Founder & Director, Andy Event Management said, “We are extremely grateful for the support and enthusiasm shown by the citizens of Mumbai who participated in the run. Bringing the 10K INTENCITY Mumbai Run to the suburbs was a huge challenge as very few runs have treaded this path. The Mumbai suburb has a green lung, and having this race here was hugely welcomed by all the runners and also speaks about our Motto – Green, Healthy India. Today’s run is proof of the success of the concept of a circuit run which we have taken to different parts of India. We are positive to build on the success of all the cities and head to Chennai from here,” said Anand Menezes.

The 10KINTENCITY run will also serve one of the core ideologies of the initiative which is to give back to sportspersons in India. Through the support of the Indian Olympians Association (An association of former Olympians), a part of the money generated will be disbursed to former and current Olympians along with aspiring sportspersons so that money can be ploughed back in creating a sound infrastructure system which will not only inspire existing sportspersons but also create future Olympians of our country.
