Mumbai: Ms Gurdeep Kaur Aujla, who is a Primary Teacher at Bombay Cambridge School, Mumbai, has won an award in the English in the Classroom competition for developing a language-based classroom activity for Young Learners (primary school learners). The competition was organised by Cambridge English Language Assessment (a part of the University of Cambridge).

Ms Aujla’s activity focuses on the correct usage of conjunctions (and, but, because). She said “This activity will guide the learners to connect two sentences using the correct conjunction while speaking and writing.”

Cambridge English Language Assessment launched the competition for English teachers on the occasion of Teachers Day 2015 targeting teachers in schools and the Higher Education segment. The competition invited the teacher to develop an innovative and original classroom activity for any one of the four language skills – Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking – for either young learners, middle school learners or tertiary learners. There were scheduled webinars that aimed at providing tips on how to prepare the submissions and how to access and use the Cambridge English India Network mobile app. The submitted activities were available for viewing on the application and the participants could also like or comment on the activities. Teachers from different cities across the country took part in the competition and received top prizes from Cambridge English Language Assessment.

With the launch of the Cambridge English Language Assessment Mobile App for English, teachers across the country are able to communicate very easily with each other and share and compare the teaching materials. This has given teachers all across the country the opportunity to discuss on key teaching methodologies and ideologies, and share practical tips.
