Ruchir Joshi and Shashank K. to get Rs. 2 lakhs each

 Bangalore, 29 January 2016 : IDBI Federal Life Insurance, a private life insurer, today announced that 2 talented Karnataka pacers, Ruchir Joshi and Shashank K, would be awarded the ‘IDBI Federal Life Insurance – Frank Tyson Scholarship’ instituted by the company.

Both of them are promising pace bowlers who successfully represented Karnataka in the Cooch Behar Under-19 Inter State tournament this year. Ruchir Joshi has two more years to represent Under-19 cricket. Karnataka State Cricket Association

(KSCA) has recommended these bowlers for the scholarship following a meticulous selection process. The Association believes these boys have exceptional bowling talents and are sure to go far with right inputs and direction.  

A former protégé of Tyson, Vighnesh Shahane, CEO, IDBI Federal Life Insurance said, “​Frank Tyson’s contribution to Indian cricket is simply commendable. While he took only 76 wickets for England, collectively his products like ​Salil Ankola ​, Abey ​Kuruvilla​, Paras Mhambrey, Sairaj Bahutule, Nilesh Kulkarni and ​I performed consistently for Mumbai. It gives me immense pleasure to have instituted this scholarship in his memory to celebrate his genius. I wish the young lads the best for their cricketing career ahead.”

Earlier this year, IDBI Federal Life Insurance had announced the “Late Frank Tyson Scholarship”, a scholarship of Rs 2 lakhs each per bowler per year, for two young ​players  for their education and training. In December 2015, two other bowlers, Minad Manjrekar and Dhrumil Matkar from Mumbai were also awarded the scholarship.

Frank Tyson, one of the fastest bowlers in the world, did a commendable job in grooming fast and spin bowlers of Mumbai like Abey Kuruvilla, Paras Mhambrey, Salil Ankola, Vighnesh Shahane, Sairaj Bahutule, Nilesh Kulkarni and many others from 1990 to 1993.
