MUMBAI, 10 SEPTEMBER, 2019 (GPN): Sahil Sheth, former BYJU’s VP and Founder of Lido Learning, have been allegedly booked for committing serious crimes punishable under Indian Penal Code – 1860 and Information Technology Act – 2000.  Mr. Sheth’s former co-founder filed a complaint against him to Economic Offences Wing of the Police at Crowford Market, Mumbai. Lido Learning is an online tutoring start up that has recently raised a round of financing from Unilazer Ventures. The complainant is Adam Khorakiwala, graduate of Stanford University and Founder of mGuru, a NASSCOM award-winning English learning app for kids.

The FIR against the accused has been filed in The Indian Penal Code, Section 420(Cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property),Section 406(Punishment for criminal breach of trust),Section 120B (Punishment of criminal conspiracy), and Section 34(Acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention)Under Information Technology Act – 2000, Sections 65(Tampering with computer source documents), Section 66B(Punishment for dishonestly receiving stolen computer resource or communication device).

In March 2019, Sahil started a new company, Quality Tutorials Pvt. Ltd. (branded as Lido Learning), when he reportedly took with him confidential documents, proposals and all-important and relevant information that were saved in the 1180 files on Mr. Khorakiwala’s company’s server which he has duly transferred onto his personal account. These files included the education content, product designs, hiring documents, process documents, and other core company intellectual property.

On 27 August and 30 August, the Economic Offense Wing and Cyber Crime teams raided the offices of Lido Learning in Lower Parel, collecting all potential evidence. The investigation continues to ascertain the extent and validity of the alleged crimes. ENDS
