SAROJ JALAN’S COLLECTION WAS PERFECT FOR BRIDES-TO-BE AT THE STUDIO DURING LAKMÉ FASHION WEEK WINTER/FESTIVE 2019 MUMBAI, 27th AUGUST 2019, (GPN): The 22-year-old brand, Saroj Jalan, has been a go-to for luxuriant Indian wear and trousseau shopping due to its timeless silhouettes with perennial embellishments. Heavily inspired by Indian handloom and hand embroidery techniques, the brand has maintained its elegance over the years. From Bollywood actress Richa Chadha to sports sensation Sania Mirza – Saroj Jalan’s garments make the cut for a variety of tastes! At The Studio during Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2019, Saroj Jalan presented her bridal collection ‘Banji’. Inspired by the carefree and colourful women of the Roma gypsys and Indian Banjara community, the creations reflected the mood of a modern bride. The bridal favourite hues of rustic reds, dusky pinks, bright mustards and pistachio greens peaked the interests of several brides-to-be.  Statement embroidered coats, fluid lehenga skirts, corseted blouses, saris and grand anarkalis – all highlighted the concept of fitted waists with flared hems. Innovative Bandhej alongside organic fabrics from across the country embellished with appliqué and Rajasthani dori work; brought together a variety of crafts. Saroj Jalan’s personal interpretation of the Kashmiri Shikarga and a twist to Gulmarg tree patterns were seen in the intricate hand-embroidery on every garment. Embroidered boots and oxidised jewellery were used to create a boho vibe. The long, fully embroidered golden coat with a dusky pink, midi dress flared above the waist was a perfect start to the show. A head-turner was the pastel blue front open anarkali and skirt combo embroidered in golden and pink, teamed with a shimmer bralet. The effervescent and perky Genelia Deshmukh, twirled on the ramp wearing a heavily embellished, red ankle-length lehenga, blouse, long dupatta and jacket. Keeping up with the times, the collection ‘Banji’ fulfilled the desires of 21st century Indian brides-to-be. Flowing but tailored and grand yet classy – Saroj Jalan presented ensembles every woman would want to wear on her special day. KRAFT CORRIDOR’S COLLECTION SHOWCASED VIBRANT VIBES AT THE STUDIO DURING LAKMÉ FASHION WEEK WINTER/FESTIVE 2019 The timeless crafts of Lucknow have been the strength of Kraft Corridor. With each design weaving its own story, the brand has retained its uniqueness. Kraft Corridor has often used traditional techniques mixed with contemporary Indian silhouettes and placements – a concept that they have continued to master season after season. At The Studio during Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2019, Kraft Corridor presented its collection ‘Manzar’ – meaning view in Urdu. Taking inspiration from the vibrant underwater life, the designers tried to remind the audience of the endangered lives. Hoping that pollution would be reduced, Kraft Corridor reflected the beauty and serenity of the oceans in their collection. Like the oceanic plants and coral reefs, ‘Manzar’ had the splash of colour of the deep sea, while still maintaining visual harmony by smart placements. The use of beige and ivory with hot pink, teal, peach, maroon and mauve was a reflection of the vibrancy in ocean life. These hot-selling colours on ever-green saris, chic tunics and contemporary Indo-western sets made this the perfect pick for festive occasions. Several capes made an appearance on the ramp, a nice addition for women who wish to cover up, while still looking chic. Silk was the key fabric that brought sheen and class to the garments but keeping the main focus on surface embellishments – aquatic shells, rocks, plants and sea creatures have been key elements in making outstanding textures. Intricate hand embroidery combined with these textures took the garments a notch higher in terms of design elements. The hot pink outfit consisting of a sensuous embellished blouse, tie and dye lehenga and ruffled dupatta stole the show. Another interesting entry was the short, embroidered, key-hole neck, mauve kurta teamed with beige godet palazzo pants and dupatta. Beautiful Bollywood actress, Neha Sharma, swayed down the runway in a peach lehenga, blouse and dupatta set. All were wonderfully embellished in gold with abstract placement embroideries of marine life. Various tassels in different shapes and sizes on the lehenga skirt added an exciting touch to the outfit. ‘Manzar’ by Kraft Corridor was a dazzling and bright yet sophisticated show. The outfits would be perfect for women wanting to make a statement this festive season! KAVITA AGARWAL DISPLAYED AN ETHNO-VINTAGE COLLECTION AT THE STUDIO DURING LAKMÉ FASHION WEEK WINTER/FESTIVE 2019 Kavita Agarwal’s label was launched in 2009 as her celebration of womanhood. A decade later, the celebrations have continued making several women feel beautiful about their innermost self. The label has been known for its surface ornamentation, as well as contemporary touches to Indian wear; and while designing Kavita Agarwal has always kept in mind women who embrace their femininity and strength – these complementing ideas have kept the label alive! Taking an inspiration from royalty, Kavita Agarwal presented ‘The Queen’s Closet’ at The Studio during Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2019. Grand and larger-than-life designs were head-turners for the women wanting to look classy. The collection would be a hit amongst those looking for some trousseau shopping this wedding season! Colour played a key role in building up the look of royalty for the show. Rich dyes of plum, bamboo, misty jade, mulled grape and tropical green formed the base of the collection. Crêpe for beautiful falls and drapes, jacquards for a detailed look of lustre and tulle to add translucency – all formed a lavish extravagant cocktail! The intricate, classic, hand embroidery showed a strong sense of Indian heritage and being close to the roots, but the silhouettes brought in a sense of modernity. Keeping in trend, lehengas with peplum cholis, saris with mandarin-collar blouses, Indo-western gowns and pre-stitched easy-to-wear saris were the key silhouettes of the collection. A variety of exquisite drapes, placement pleats and sheer layering made Kavita Agarwal’s collection stand out. The dark grey, criss-cross front, peplum blouse, embroidered in white and gold was teamed with a floral jacquard skirt and embellished choker. An outfit that stood out was the beige, puffed sleeve, plunging neckline tunic with a flared skirt. Pearls for jewellery added to the royalty of the show. The versatile Bollywood actress, Soha Ali Khan Pataudi, looked like royalty wearing a beige lehenga, choli and long dupatta – all heavily embellished with golden and deep green. Since luxury and sophistication is what women want for Indian wear, ‘The Queen’s Closet’ by Kavita Agarwal would definitely find its way into every stylish woman’s closet this festive season. PINK PEACOCK COUTURE BY MASUMI MEWAWALLA  SWAYED WITH ELEGANCE AT THE STUDIO DURING LAKMÉ FASHION WEEK WINTER/FESTIVE 2019 Pink Peacock Couture by the multi-talented designer Masumi Mewawalla has been a bridal favourite. Known for merging European aesthetics with Indian silhouettes, the label has become a go-to for modern brides wanting to look glamorous yet feel light. For Winter/Festive 2019 at The Studio during Lakmé Fashion Week, Pink Peacock Couture presented an elegant bridal collection “Art Nouveau and Art Deco”. A combination of design aesthetics from the late 1800’s to early 1900’s and the old European architecture of Mumbai could be seen forming a unique harmony. With this variety, Pink Peacock Couture presented a contemporary collection for modish and sophisticated brides-to-be. Staying true to the label’s name, various hues of pink formed the key colour. An addition of chic pastel shades further reflected the European inspiration. Layered lehengas, interesting blouse cuts and fresh draped styles modernised the collection and would be a pick for any bride wanting to look classy! Exaggerated floor-length bows and bag-size clutches were the highlight of the show. Rich fabrics with a hint of translucency were embellished with intricate embroidery and fine craftsmanship. The art nouveau inspiration focused on asymmetric free-flowing designs, while symmetric geometric motifs reflected the art deco style. This created the fusion of cubism and morphism, highlighting elements like smooth lines, flower stalks, vine tendrils and many more delicate, sinuous natural motifs. The two-toned pink/white embroidered gown with a huge, sheer, floor-sweeping pink bow was a head-turner. A mesmerising Indo-western outfit was the ivory, puff-sleeved shirt having an enormous bow at the waist, with a lehenga embellished in shades of gold. The former Miss Diva and Bollywood actress, Urvashi Rautela, twirled on the ramp in an embroidered, sky blue gown with an attached cape. ‘Art Nouveau & Art Deco’ by Pink Peacock Couture created by Masumi Mewawalla showed an unconventional side of bridal fashion that encompassed inspiration from a different culture and olden times to form one-of-a-kind Indian traditional outfits. This collection is sure to be a best seller amongst brides who want to look polished yet exquisite.ends
