MUMBAI, 23rd AUGUST, 2019, (GPN): Historic textiles and stunning weaves dazzled on the catwalk as Gaurang unveiled his fabulous “Peshwai” collection at Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2019.

The show opened to the strains of live music and singer Gargi Siddhanth, disciple of Pandit Jasraj who melodiously sang throughout the show as the models walked gracefully down the ramp.

The rich weaves of Paithan rose to great splendour during the Mughal Era but Peshwa Bajirao brought this glorious textile in the 18th century to Baroda. The “Peshwai” collection on the runway was a grand mélange of fabrics that were from the Deccan Plateau and associated with Peshwa royalty.

Gaurang presented this much-loved traditional textile in a modern mode as he brought the 18th century motifs to centre stage but in a new avatar. The designer further experimented with the checked Kota Doria turned it into a jamdaani canvas and patterned with Persian designs and mosaics.

In addition, Gaurang cleverly accentuated the intricate mustard seed Bandhani for the ornate weaves. With a collection so rich and regal the colour canvas had to match its beauty. Here the designer creatively played with pure white, which gently flowed into shades of yellow, orange and rose red.

For the ladies, there were sumptuously woven saris in dazzling weaves along with grand ethnic wear. The splendid saris with their amazing patterns featured motifs of birds, trees and flowers in magnificent colours and patterns. The broad glittering and dazzling gold borders as well as the rich hues of the design, turned the saris into creations that one only dreams of.

The collection of kurtas, were in two gorgeous silhouettes -either slim and elegant or full flared with a voluminous style. The collection of lehengas, cholis, and dupattas were in a myriad combination of glittering weaves and Bandhani designs as well as contrasting colours that brought regal splendour on the ramp. The cholis were kept simple and elegant with either short, three-quarter or long sleeves.

For the men, Indian traditional attire followed the theme with kurtas, bundies, dhotis, dupattas and Sherwanis making a strong fashion statement in the fabulous glittering textiles.

Keeping the royal ethos of the creations in control, there were fluid flowing drapes inspired from the literature of the Baroda Palace and Dakkan. Here was bridal glamour of the ultimate kind. There was no doubt that, as the impressive “Peshwai” collection appeared on the ramp on graceful models, it exuded a definite quality of Dakhani Royalty.

For the millennial lady and man who want to fashionably move back to the future, the “Peshwai” collection by Gaurang will turn them into royalty from the Maratha era on the most important day of their life.

Lakmé Official Makeup Expert at Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2019, Daniel Bauer for the Gaurang show had the face glossy, contoured and highlighted. The eyes had a strong smoked out wing with bold brows. The look was completed with the Lakmé Absolute Matte Revolution Lipstick in the shade Blushing Red.ends
