After the successful outcome in the previous year – 6,765 professional visitors and 184 exhibitors – this year also pledges to be record breaking: with an exhibition space expanded by almost 50 percent IFAT India 2018 expects around more than 200 exhibitors.

The financial capital of India has now been declared as the fourth most polluted mega city in the world, according to latest data released by the World Health Organisation (WHO). According to the BMC’s Environment Status Report (ESR) 2017-18, the annual average PM 10 (particulate matter less than 10 microns) levels in 2017-18 for the nine locations monitored by System of Air Quality Weather Forecasting and Research (SAFAR), were above the permissible level of 60 µg/m3 (micrograms per cubic metre of air)—overall average for Mumbai was 93 µg/m3.

The data for Mumbai clearly indicates that even though the city has the advantage of sea breeze, it continues to face a pollution crisis. The most critical of all air pollutants, PM – a mix of solid and liquid particles including dust, sand, smoke, lead, nickel and arsenic. It causes respiratory problems like asthma and heart disease.

Experts said the new data calls for urgent intervention by the state and central authorities regarding air pollution as a serious threat in India. IFAT India 2018 will provide deliberative platform to create potential solutions to these problems through latest technologies available globally, panel discussions and other supporting programs.

The key participants of the roadshow were Dr. Ajit V. Salvi, Assistant Engineer Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM), Dr. Amiya Sahu, President, National Solid Waste Management Association of India (NSWAI), Dr. Jairaj M Phatak, IAS (Retd), All India Institute of Local Self-Government, Mumbai, Dr. Shrikar,Founder & CEO, Dole SDG Foundation and Mr. Tushar Alekar, Commercial Director Messe Muenchen India.

Bhupinder Singh, CEO of Messe Muenchen India said, “The aim of our regional roadshows is to involve the industry and gain valuable insights from our key participants. We are also thankful to all participants who have taken out the time to join us for the roadshow.”

IFAT India has demonstrated to be a great platform to connect key industry players to the government representatives, foster opportunities to report on current environmental issues and establish contact with appropriate technology partners. Thus, IFAT India 2018 is purported to debut the ‘Buyer – Seller Forum’, to establish and precisely match potential matchmaking for exhibitors and the visitors, running parallel to the expo.
