Mumbai, December 19, 2017 (GPN) : Cricketing legend and Hon’ble Member of Rajya Sabha Shri Sachin Tendulkar visited Donja village in Osmanabad, Maharashtra which he has adopted under the Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojana (SAGY). Sachin has committed Rs. 4 crore from his MP LAD funds for the infrastructure development of the village. Donja is the second village adopted by Shri. Tendulkar SAGY after Puttumraju Kandriga in Andhra Pradesh.

Under the initiative of Shri Tendulkar, villagers of Donja will have access to potable water with the construction of a water tank and laying of pipelines to their houses. A new school building will also be built along with sewage system and concrete roads in the village. The tendering process for most of the projects have been completed and work orders have been issued. Spreading Happiness InDiya Foundation, an organization associated with Shri Tendulkar, has also undertaken to provide solar energy based lighting solutions to the school and other public amenities.

Donja has already been recognized as an ODF (open defecation free) village shortly after Shri Tendulkar adoption in November 2016. Located in Paranda Tehsil of Osmanabad district, Donja has total population of over 2,800 people.

During his half day visit, Shri Tendulkar interacted with the District Magistrate & Collector of Osmanabad Shri R. V. Game and his team reviewing the progress of the development of the village. He also played cricket with some children from the local school while interacting with them.

Addressing the large crowd assembled at the Donja, Shri Tendulkar said, “I am overwhelmed with your enthusiasm and spirit and hope that all of us can work together towards development of the village. The initial challenges in implementing the development work has been successfully overcome and I am sure that the execution of the work will pick up speed. We want to showcase the development in Donja as a case for other villages across the country.”ENDS
