MUMBAI, 30 November, 2017 (GPN): Department of Posts in agreement with UIDAI has decided to provide Aadhar Enrolment facility in selected Post Offices of Maharashtra Circle which would facilitate residents in getting new Aadhar cards.

Aadhar Updation Centres are functioning w.e.f 20.06.2017 and at present total 107 Aadhar Updation Centres are functioning in Maharashtra Circle. Out of total 2214 Post Offices in Maharashtra Circle, Aadhar Enrolment-Cum-Updation Centres will start functioning in 1293 Post Offices shortly.

The Maharashtra circle of the Department of Posts has started its Aadhaar enrolment facility at select post offices across the state. The facility was inaugurated at the GPO by Chief Post Master General (CPMG) H C Agrawal on Thursday. Four-year-old Soham Sonawane became the first individual to get enrolled for his Aadhaar card at the GPO.

Agarwal, while addressing a press conference after the inauguration, said that out of total 2214 post offices in Maharashtra circle, Aadhar Enrolment-Cum-Updation Centres will start functioning in 1293 Post Offices shortly. “Maharashtra circle has now become the enrolment agency of the UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India) for providing Aadhaar updation and enrolment. The staff at the post offices have been trained and certified by UIDAI to handle this work,” Agrawal said.

Aadhar has been given to more than 113 crore people in India. The Central government has issued various notifications wherein it has prescribed requirement of Aadhar for availing various services and benefits such as opening of Bank accounts, PAN card, Income tax returns, Passport, Ration card etc. Government of Maharashtra has also issued various notifications wherein Aadhar is prescribed for various services like property registration transaction, birth registration, minority scholarship scheme etc. Approximately more than 3 lakhs people all over the country are now applying every day for updating their Aadhar details and approximately 22-25 crores people every year will seek updates in their demographic information on Aadhar card.

The Aadhar holders are required to keep the details such as mobile number, email id, address updated in the Aadhar database for availing the benefits of Aadhar related services provided by Central and State government. They also sometimes require to update other details such as name and photograph.

Department of Posts is already a registrar of UIDAI. Maharashtra Circle has now become Enrolment Agency of UIDAI for providing Aadhar Updation and Enrolment facility. The Post office staff is being trained and certified by UIDAI to handle this work skillfully. Necessary devices and equipment are being procured by the postal department.

Aadhar Updation Centers at a Glance :

● At all India level, 992 Aadhar Updation centers are functioning, out of which 107 are functioning in Maharashtra Postal Circle in Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Aurangabad, Pune, Goa and Nagpur Regions
● One such Aadhar Updation Center has commenced its operation in Mumbai GPO w.e.f 20.06.2017 and from today it will function as Aadhar Enrolment – cum – Updation Center as Enrolment Center, which was inaugurated in GPO on 30.11.2017. Similarly, the inauguration of Enrolment Center was held in Pune City HO and Nagpur GPO on 30.11.2017.
● Department has a plan to expand this number of Aadhar Enrolment cum Updation Centers to 13334 across all the Postal circles in India in a phased manner.
