Born to doctor parents, Chhillar, who hails from Haryana, studied in St. Thomas School in New Delhi and Bhagat Phool Singh Government Medical College for Women in Sonepat. In the question and answer round that followed her entry in the top five spots, the 21-year-old Chhillar was asked which profession deserved the highest salary and why? She replied: “I think a mother is of highest respect. I don’t think its just about cash but love and respect she gives to someone. She is the biggest inspiration in my life. Mother should get highest respect.”

From a “serious and a very intelligent medical student” to Fbb Colors Femina Miss India World 2017, the last three months for Delhi girl Manushi Chhillar have been life altering. Manushi, a medical student from Bhagat Phool Singh Government Medical College for Women in Sonipat, was crowned Miss India World 2017 on Sunday 19th November and congratulatory messages from her friends, family and teachers from her school in Delhi haven’t stopped pouring in since then.

“I am elated, to say the least. Winning a beauty pageant and the Miss India title was always a dream. I was always focused on my studies and wanted to be a doctor, but like every girl, I would also dream to be at a beauty pageant at least once in life,” says Manushi.

“That was the reason why I participated in the auditions. I was in Chandigarh when I got to know about the auditions and it was my parents who encouraged me to go and at least try my luck. And I really can’t believe where I stand today,” says Manushi, who juggled studies, workout schedule and other preparations in these three months. “My entire college life changed the day I was selected in the auditions. During those days, other students in the hostel would be sleeping and I would get up early to work out, and then return to attend classes. So, while preparing, I tried my best to not miss too many classes. When other students would study after classes, I would go out again to work out and then study in the night. As a medical student, you have to study every day. You can’t cover the syllabus by studying for a few nights before your exam. Other students in the hostel would think that I have gone crazy, and sometimes found it funny,” she adds.
