Adapt on board The Tata Mumbai Marathon in support of the champions with disability

Mumbai, 2nd September, 2017 (GPN) : The Champions with Disability category will be supported by the NGO, ADAPT, in the capacity as ‘official provider’ at the Tata Mumbai Marathon. The category which started in 2005 as the Wheelchair Event, was open only to individuals on a wheelchair. Over the years, the response received was encouraging and requests came in to accommodate participation of individuals with all kinds of disabilities, not restricted only to wheelchair participants. This inspired us to rechristen the category to ‘Champions with Disability’ in the year 2015. The category is open for individuals with physical/locomotor disability, intellectual impairment, visual impairment, hearing impairment and orthopaedic or neurological disorders. For the Tata Mumbai Marathon, Procam International has associated with ADAPT; The Spastic Society of India, to create the necessary stir and push, by further engaging the community to come ahead and participate. With the necessary expertise and manpower, ADAPT is certain to give this category of participants an unforgettable experience from registration to race day. Malini Chib, CEO and Trustee , ADAPT said, The Spastic Society of India now known as ADAPT (Able Disabled All People Together) was started by Padmashree, Dr Mithu Alur in 1972 . Since then it has served the country for 44 years in the field of disability. Today, ADAPT is one of the largest NGO’s dealing with disability in India; from a little school it has evolved into a movement by and for disabled people. At the TATA Mumbai Marathon, Adapt will network with NGO’s and other institutions working with people with disabilities and assist them to be a part of this unique experience of running. We are sure that more NGO’s and individuals will be interested in coming together at this mega event of inclusion.” Vivek Singh, Jt MD, Procam International said, “ADAPT’s involvement with the event will be to network with our NGO partners to increase the participation and experience of the disabled. With our partner’s suppor,t we will showcase the determination and spirit of the specially-abled persons to cross the finish line together, ADAPT’s work is an important step and we have got a long journey ahead.” The registrations for the Champions with Disability begin tomorrow and for more details, log on to http://tatamumbaimarathon.procamrunning.in.
